Fluoroquinolone and Macrolide Treatment Failure in Pneumococcal Pneumonia and Selection of Multidrug-Resistant Isolates

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2003
Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3, isolated from a penicillin-allergic patient and initially susceptible to fluoroquinolones, macrolides, lincosamides, quinupristin-dalfopristin, and telithromycin, became resistant to all these drugs during treatment ...

Rendering white nationalism defeasible in interaction

open access: yesBritish Journal of Social Psychology, Volume 65, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract People work to present themselves as moral, reasonable or justified even when making racist or hateful comments. In this project, we identify interactional practices that accomplish support for White nationalism as part of a reasonable (or even positive) identity held by reasonable or positive actors.

Ribosomal Protein L22 Loss Predisposes Stem Cells to Transformation By Altering Metabolism

open access: yesBlood, 2016
Abstract While mutations in ribosomal proteins (RP) have long been associated with increased cancer risk, the molecular basis for this association remains unclear. The prevailing view is that mutations in RP increase cancer risk either by impairing the biogenesis or function of the ribosome. Here, we report that loss of the RP, Rpl22, is

Computational and Machine‐Learning Studies of Ethylene Oligomerization

open access: yesCarbon and Hydrogen, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 40-65, March 2026.
This review focuses on recent advances in computational and machine‐learning studies of ethylene oligomerization, highlighting mainstream catalyst systems based on Co, Ta, Ti, Zr, and Hf, with particular emphasis on Fe‐ and Cr‐based catalysts and their controlling factors governing reactivity and LAO distribution.

Mycobacterium bolletii Respiratory Infections

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2009
Contrary to other species in the Mycobacterium chelonae-abscessus complex, we reidentified M. bolletii strains isolated from 4 respiratory patients and found these strains to be uniformly resistant to clarithromycin.

Some reductions of rank 2 and genera 2 and 3 Hitchin systems

open access: yes, 2017
Certain reductions of the rank 2, genera 2 and 3 Hitchin systems are considered, which are shown to give an integrable system of 2, resp. 3, interacting points on the line.

Multi-Dimensional Framework for Assessing Farm Competitiveness in Bulgaria with Legal Structures

open access: yesZagadnienia Ekonomiki Rolnej
This study challenges traditional economic models of farm competitiveness by highlighting the under-examined role of legal structures. It argues that a farm’s governing structure significantly impacts its ability to thrive in the market.

Engineering a Perfusion Bioreactor System for hiPSC‐Derived Progenitor Co‐Culture Capturing Microglial Features in CNS Development

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 2, Page 363-378, February 2026.
The authors report the development of a controlled and scalable 3D co‐culture system combining hiPSC‐derived erythromyeloid progenitors and neurospheres within the Ambr® 250 Modular platform operated with a newly designed perfusion system. This model faithfully recapitulates early microglia–neural interactions, enabling progenitor integration ...

Analytic Studies of Static and Transport Properties of (Gauged) Skyrmions

open access: yes, 2019
We study static and transport properties of Skyrmions living within a finite spatial volume in a flat (3+1)-dimensional spacetime. In particular, we derive an explicit analytic expression for the compression modulus corresponding to these Skyrmions ...
