The primary structure of rat ribosomal protein L26 [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1989
The amino acid sequence of rat ribosomal protein L26 was deduced from the sequence of nucleotides in a recombinant cDNA and confirmed from the NH2‐terminal amino acid sequence of the protein. Rat L26 contains 145 amino acids and has a molecular mass of 17 266 Da. Hybridization of the cDNA to digests of nuclear DNA suggests that there are 8–16 copies of

Regulation of p53 Translation and Induction after DNA Damage by Ribosomal Protein L26 and Nucleolin [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2005
Increases in p53 protein levels after DNA damage have largely been attributed to an increase in the half-life of p53 protein. Here we demonstrate that increased translation of p53 mRNA is also a critical step in the induction of p53 protein in irradiated cells. Ribosomal protein L26 (RPL26) and nucleolin were found to bind to the 5' untranslated region

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Ribosomal Protein L26 Is Not Essential for Ribosome Assembly and Function [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 2012
Ribosomal proteins play important roles in ribosome biogenesis and function. Here, we study the evolutionarily conserved L26 inSaccharomyces cerevisiae, which assembles into pre-60S ribosomal particles in the nucle(ol)us.

Differential regulation of the murine ribosomal protein L26 gene in macrophage activation

Life Sciences, 1995
In mouse RAW 264.7 macrophages, the gene for ribosomal protein L26 is positively regulated by silica. In order to study L26 gene expression a near full-length cDNA for mouse L26 was isolated and characterized. Sequence analysis revealed that mouse L26 is a 145 amino acid protein highly homologous to other vertebrate L26 proteins.

Mdm2 Regulates p53 mRNA Translation through Inhibitory Interactions with Ribosomal Protein L26 [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cell, 2008
Mdm2 regulates the p53 tumor suppressor by promoting its proteasome-mediated degradation. Mdm2 and p53 engage in an autoregulatory feedback loop that maintains low p53 activity in nonstressed cells. We now report that Mdm2 regulates p53 levels also by targeting ribosomal protein L26. L26 binds p53 mRNA and augments its translation.
