De Novo Design and Structural Optimization of Mn(salen)‐Based Artificial Metalloenzymes for Asymmetric Sulfoxidation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We report the computational design of de novo proteins that bind Mn(salen)‐based complexes (L1) using Rosetta FastDesign and verified by AlphaFold2. After screening, the catalytic activity for the promising design (dnMSBP) toward enantioselective sulfoxidation of thioanisole was optimized based on its crystal structure. With 10 different substrates, we

Intramolecular Nickel‐Catalyzed Reductive Coupling: Enantioselective Synthesis of Tetrahydroisoquinolines and Related Heterocycles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The successful extension of the nickel‐catalyzed asymmetric coupling of polarized 1,3‐dienes with aldehydes to an intramolecular setting opens an efficient new entry into hydroxylated N‐heterocyclic compounds, most notably valuable tetrahydroisoquinolines.

Role of Graphene Oxide in the Nucleation and Growth of Gold Nanoparticles Revealed by Operando Time‐Resolved Studies

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Graphene oxide accelerates AuCl4− reduction under irradiation and directs edge‐selective nucleation and quasi‐one‐dimensional organization of gold nanoparticles at oxygen‐rich boundaries. Operando SAXS and UV–vis spectroscopy, supported by pulse radiolysis and DFT, reveal how progressive conversion of GO to rGO removes interfacial constraints, shifting

Atroposelective Pd(0)‐Catalyzed Direct Intermolecular C─H Arylation of Thiazole N‐Oxides Provides Access to Heterobiaryls

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An enantioselective Pd(0)‐catalysed arylation at the C4‐position of thiazole N‐oxides directly forges the atropochiral heterobiaryl axis. A tailored point‐ and axially chiral monodentate phosphine ensures high reactivities along with a tight stereocontrol.
