Incorporation of N‐based onium ions into the ionic framework of poly(heptazine imide) was obtained via protonation‐deprotonation of PHI frameworks arising from a parent Na‐containing analogue. Particularly, methylammonium moieties, through their small molecular size, hydrogen bonding capabilities and rotational mobility, appear to stabilize ...

Cassiterite fingerprinting by LA-ICP-MS
Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, 2013Cassiterite (SnO2) has been specified as a ‘conflict mineral’ by a U.S. Government Act. This requires all companies that use tin in their products to verify that this tin does not originate from conflict regions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where an ongoing violent conflict is fuelled by those minerals.

The Role of LA–ICP–MS in Palaeoclimate Research
Elements, 2016Past environmental parameters such as temperature, pH and CO2 can be reconstructed from chemical 'proxies' (elemental and isotopic compositions) stored in various 'archives' such as corals, foraminifera and bivalves. Versatile, rapid, simple and comparatively inexpensive microanalysis via laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA ...

LA-ICP-MS analysis of waste polymer materials
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2010Waste polymer materials were analyzed by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). The concentrations of 35 elements were determined by using different types of external standards, namely glass and polyethylene (PE) based. Prior to the LA-ICP-MS analysis of determined elements, Na and/or Zn were used as internal standards.

Microanalysis of ceramics with PIXE and LA-ICP-MS
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2002Abstract The provenance postulate states that artifact raw material sources can be determined by chemical characterization as long as between-source chemical differences exceed within-source variation. For ceramics, successful differentiation of sources usually requires the measurement of a large suite of elements.

LA ICP-MS in microelectronics failure analysis
Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics, 2011To keep up with the trend of integrating more functionality within lighter and smaller consumer electronics devices, the dimensions of components keep shrinking. Technologies such as high density interconnection, 3-D interconnection, system in package (SIP), and flexible circuit are becoming more commonly used.

Applications of LA–ICP–MS to Forensic Science
Elements, 2016Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA–ICP–MS) provides qualitative and quantitative measurements of the elemental and isotopic composition of materials that are of interest to forensic scientists. The technique can chemically characterize physical evidence associated with a crime event, a location, contact between objects or ...
