Measurement of CeO2 Nanoparticles in Natural Waters Using a High Sensitivity, Single Particle ICP-MS

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
As the production and use of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) increases, so does the concern of the scientific community over their release into the environment.

Statistics for LA-ICP-MS based fission track dating [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Geology, 2017
Abstract Despite the conceptual elegance and simplicity of the External Detector Method (EDM) for fission track dating, an increasing number of laboratories are switching to LA-ICP-MS as a means of measuring the uranium content of apatite, zircon and sphene. LA-ICP-MS based fission track (LAFT) dating offers shorter turnaround times, removes the need

U‐Pb dating of zircon by LA‐ICP‐MS [PDF]

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2006
In this study we used LA‐ICP‐MS (laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry) to determine U‐Pb ages of 5 zircon samples of known age (∼1800 Ma to ∼50 Ma) in order to determine the reproducibility, precision, and accuracy of this geochronologic technique.

Multi‐Functional ZnO–Te Heterojunction Devices Enabling Compact Frequency Quadrupler

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale ZnO–Te heterojunction devices featuring tunable double negative differential transconductance (D‐NDT) are demonstrated at ≤ 200°C. Leveraging this unique characteristic, a single‐stage frequency quadrupler is realized, achieving a 64%–75% reduction in device count.

Determination of Elemental Concentrations in Lichens Using ICP-AES/MS

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2017
Lichens are good biomonitors for air pollution because of their high enrichment capability of atmospheric chemical elements. To monitor atmospheric element deposition using lichens, it is important to obtain information on the multi-element ...

Temporal and spatial evolution of a waxing then waning catastrophic density current revealed by chemical mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We reconstruct the behavior of a catastrophic sustained radial pyroclastic density current as it waxed then waned during its brief lifespan. By subdividing the deposit into 8 time slices using a chemical tracer, we show that the sustained current ...

Carbon Shell‐Encapsulated PtFe Catalysts in High Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells: Balancing Molecular Sieving and Diffusion for Enhanced Reactant Access

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Scanning electrochemical microscopy reveals reactant diffusion through porous carbon shells to PtFe cores, while the carbon‐encapsulated PtFe enables high‐performance HT‐PEMFC operation by sieving phosphate ions that induce catalyst poisoning. ABSTRACT High‐temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (HT‐PEMFCs) operating at 160°C on phosphoric

Residual‐Lithium‐to‐LiF Conversion Enables a LiF–Fluorinated Carbon Interphase for Reconstruction‐Resistant Ni‐Rich Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fluorine‐rich acrylate monomer (PFHEA) was solvent‐free applied to NCM90 and thermally decomposed under Ar to convert residual lithium into LiF and form a pre‐built LiF/fluorinated amorphous carbon (LiF/FC) interphase. The LiF/FC layer suppresses NiO rock‐salt reconstruction and microcrack propagation, lowers interfacial resistance, and improves Li ...
