Microplastics and nanoplastics in water: Improving removal in wastewater treatment plants with alternative coagulants

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 7, Page 3744-3757, July 2026.
The contaminant removal performance of a conventional coagulant, alum, and alternative coagulants, aluminium chlorohydrate (ACH) and ACH + pDADMC, are compared in challenging wastewater treatment conditions (pH >7.8). The interactions of each coagulant with a negatively charged surface are depicted based on quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation ...

Bright Ferritin for Non‐Invasive MRI Monitoring of the Fate of Transplanted hPSC‐Cardiomyocytes in the Infarcted Rat Heart

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 1, Page 323-338, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To demonstrate that a recently reported bright ferritin magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) platform can track transplanted human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)‐derived cardiomyocytes (hPSC‐CMs) longitudinally and on‐demand in the rat heart.

Influence of Alkaline Earth Barium on the Microstructure, Corrosion Behavior, and Cytocompatibility of Biodegradable Zinc

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Biodegradable Zn‐based alloys are promising candidates for temporary implants, yet excessive Zn2+ release during degradation may induce cytotoxicity and adverse tissue responses. In this study, Zn‐xBa alloys (x = 0.1 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt% and 3.0 wt%) were developed to achieve controlled corrosion behaviors with improved biocompatibility.

Zinc Isotopes Reveal Cross‐Border Transport of Coal Combustion Pollutants Across the Himalayas During the Summer Monsoon

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract The Himalayas form a major atmospheric barrier between South Asia and Tibetan Plateau, yet cross‐barrier transport of anthropogenic metals remains poorly constrained. We use moss δ66Zn along a 750–4,100 m a.s.l. south‐north transect in Motuo to trace pollution sources and transport processes. On the southern slope, trace metals (Zn, Pb, As, Ni,

Enhanced Electrochemical Oxidation of Ethanol Over Nickel Foam Supported Pt–Au Alloy Electrode

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 12, 17 June 2026.
Nickel foam‐supported strategically engineered Pt–Au alloy with a Pt‐enriched surface and Au‐rich bulk promotes strong electronic and bifunctional synergies. This structural design drives highly efficient ethanol electro‐oxidation, proceeding through an acetaldehyde intermediate to produce acetate.
