ABSTRACT The hydrology and drainage history of freshwater marshes influence their soil properties and plant communities, which in turn affect microbial biomass and extracellular enzyme activities that regulate the biogeochemistry and functioning of the marsh. However, field reports examining the spatial differences and controls of microbial biomass and

Mineral Stabilization of Soil Organic Sulfur at the Continental Scale
The conventional whole‐soil view treats soil organic sulfur (S) as a single bulk pool, obscuring the mechanisms governing its transformation, stabilization, and availability. Separating organic S into particulate organic sulfur (POS) and mineral‐associated organic sulfur (MAOS) distinguishes their contrasting sources, microbial transformations, and ...

Ionic Liquid Electrolytes for Extreme Temperature Conditions: Challenges and Perspective
Ionic liquids (ILs) have gained great attention as safe electrolyte components in recent years. This review elucidates the temperature effects on IL‐based electrolytes from molecular configurations, physicochemical properties, and interfacial chemistry, raises the challenges and design strategies operating at low‐ and HT, providing valuable guidance ...

Biochar application on top of the soil can be successful in already established and naturally regenerated boreal forest stands. Biochar tends to increase diameter and basal area growth. Increasing biochar dose enhanced growth response. Biochar induced growth response diminished 5 years after application.
