A Social Network Analysis of Occupational Segregation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We propose an equilibrium interaction model of occupational segregation and labor market inequality between two social groups, generated exclusively through the documented tendency to refer informal job seekers of identical "social color". The expected social color homophily in job referrals strategically induces distinct career choices for individuals

Joint Point and Variance Estimation under a Hierarchical Bayesian model for Survey Count Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
We propose a novel Bayesian framework for the joint modeling of survey point and variance estimates for count data. The approach incorporates an induced prior distribution on the modeled true variance that sets it equal to the generating variance of the point estimate, a key property more readily achieved for continuous data response type models.

JUSTIFIABLE ARTIFICIAL ABORTION AND INDUCED PREMATURE LABOR. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1899
After a number of years of observation and study I am led to believe that abortion, both accidental and criminal, is frightfully common in all grades of society. Justifiable artificial abortion is not comparatively common, neither should it be, but seems sometimes required to save the life of a woman. Induced premature labor is as likely to be required

Medically induced labor: Epidural analgesia and women’s perceptions of pain in early labor [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Midwifery, 2018
Approximately 25% of all deliveries in Denmark are medically induced, typically characterized by more intense uterine contractions. The aim of this paper is to investigate the differences in the administration of epidural analgesia and pain experience between spontaneous and medically induced labor in nulliparous and multiparous women. This is a ...

Discovering changes in birthing narratives during COVID-19 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
We investigate whether, and if so how, birthing narratives written by new parents on Reddit changed during COVID-19. Our results indicate that the presence of family members significantly decreased and themes related to induced labor significantly increased in the narratives during COVID-19.

Activation of the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) leads to cytokine profile shift to pro‐inflammatory in labor

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2018
The shift of cytokine profile from anti‐ to pro‐inflammatory is the most recognizable sign of labor, although the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Here, we report that the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) is upregulated and activated in the uterus ...
