Complicated dynamics in a flow model of the labor market

Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, 2004
We develop a worker flow model with a nonlinear and endogenous outflow rate from unemployment. Inconsistent claims on the output lead to changing inflation rates which feedback on job offers through the real money supply. Via simulations one can show that the nonlinear outflow rate causes asymmetric adjustment of unemployment to the ‘equilibrium rate ...

The structure of labor market flows

2015
We show that a general class of frictional labor market models with a participation margin and an individual-specific state can only match labor market transition rates within a certain range, which we characterize analytically. Transition rates in the data are outside the range the model can match, which explains the failure of previous papers to ...

Time and space aggregation of the labor market flows [PDF]

I present new empirical evidence on the relationship between the job flows, worker flows, and the time horizon at which these flows are measured. In particular, I show that worker flows grow linearly with the horizon at which they are measured; job flows grow approximately with the square root of the horizon.
