Business Model and Sustainable Development Goals for an Innovative Agricultural Waste Management: Distributed Biogas Production

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Technological progress and population growth have increased global pork demand; leading to a rise of methane emission from pig farming, a key contributor to climate change. Anaerobic digestion offers a sustainable solution by converting manure into biogas.

Chemically‐Linked Heterostructures of Palladium Nanosheets and 2H‐MoS2

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The photoresponse of MoS2 devices is extended to the near‐infrared region (up to 1700 nm) through chemical connection to Pd nanosheets (PdNS). A maleimide is used for covalent connection to MoS2, and a phenyl bromide moiety for linkage to the PdNS. In the absence of the chemical linker, van der Waals heterostructures show poorer enhancement of the ...

Buchanan and the Social Contract: Coordination Failures and the Atrophy of Property Rights

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT James Buchanan advocated that societies should be based on a social contract. He rejected anarchy, seeing it as a “Hobbesian jungle” that calls for government intervention to maintain social order. He also opposed theories of spontaneous order. These views led to debates about the compatibility of Buchanan's works with classical liberalism and

Substitution of Ti by Nb in Maraging Steel: Effects on Strengthening Mechanisms and Crystallographic Behavior

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that replacing Ti with Nb in maraging steel forms nanoscale Nb–Mo particles along boundaries, strengthening the alloy without relying on Ti phases. Heat‐treatment tuning promotes uniform crystal orientation and balanced grain boundaries, enabling strong yet ductile behavior.

Cabomba caroliniana and Schoenoplectus californicus as Antifouling Candidates: Anti‐Attachment and Toxicological Effects in Aurelia coerulea (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa)

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biofouling on artificial surfaces in aquatic ecosystems leads to significant economic losses. Current antifouling paints, while effective, often harm the aquatic environment. This study explores ecologically safe antifouling alternatives derived from plants, focusing on the aquatic macrophytes Cabomba caroliniana (CC) and Schoenoplectus ...

Titanium Detected in Liver, Kidney, Spleen, and Intestine Is Not Related to Dose, Time, or Route of Exposure to Titanium Dioxide: A Systematic Review

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Titanium dioxide (TiO2), used as a food additive (labeled E171 in Europe), was withdrawn from the European market in 2022. The E171 toxicity mechanism involves its uptake, oxidative stress, DNA damage, and inflammation. It has been hypothesized that the TiO2 accumulation nanoparticles (NPs) or E171 triggers tissue damage, and some studies have
