The interaction of RNA polymerase and lac repressor with the lac control region
We have examined the interactions of lac repressor and RNA polymerase with the DNA of the lac control region, using a method for direct visualization of the regions of DNA protected by proteins from DNAase attack. The repressor protects the operator essentially as reported by Gilbert and Maxam (1) with some small modifications.

Abstract Caste—an ascriptive social hierarchy in South Asia and its diaspora—is a globalized phenomenon. Recent caste‐based discrimination, particularly in technology companies and anti‐caste efforts to address it, has compelled academia, policy, and the technology industry to better understand contemporary mechanics of caste.

The HST Survey of BL Lacertae Objects. II. Host Galaxies
We have used the HST WFPC2 camera to survey 132 BL Lac objects comprising seven complete radio-, X-ray-, and optically-selected samples. We obtained useful images for 110 targets spanning the redshift range 0 < z < 1.3. In two thirds of the BL Lac images,

Genetically Programmed Control of Overflow Metabolism
ABSTRACT Overflow metabolism is a highly undesirable phenomenon that occurs in virtually all cell factories. Although several schemes have been applied to avoid overflow metabolism, this problem remains far from being solved. In this study, a genetic sensor for detecting overflow metabolism was designed, and its substrate specificity and reversibility ...

Polarimetry of optically selected BL Lac candidates from the SDSS
We present and discuss polarimetric observations of 182 targets drawn from an optically selected sample of 240 probable BL Lac candidates out of the SDSS compiled by Collinge et al. (2005).

Multi‐Scale Hybrid Modeling to Predict Cell Culture Process With Metabolic Phase Transitions
ABSTRACT To advance understanding of cellular metabolism and reduce batch‐to‐batch variability in cell culture processes, this study introduces a multi‐scale hybrid modeling framework designed to simulate and predict the dynamic behavior of CHO cell cultures undergoing metabolic phase transitions.

Potential Cost Savings of Off-Site Regional Anesthesia for Minor Orthopedic Surgical Procedures
This study is limited by the fact that each hospital has different costs for staffing as well as ambiguous billing patterns that make it difficult to correctly appreciate the value of perioperative staffing and costs for the hospital, insurance company ...

Four New BL Lac Surveys: Sampling New Populations [PDF]
The advent of large area deep radio and X-ray surveys is leading to the creation of many new BL Lac samples. In particular, the ROSAT All-Sky, Green Bank and FIRST surveys are proving to be rich sources of new BL Lacs. We will discuss the methods used in
