open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires

Daylight Photoluminescence Imaging via Optical String Switching

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 8, Issue 19, October 2024.
The use of optical modulators enables the switching of the operating points of photovoltaic (PV) modules within one PV string connected to a utility‐scale PV inverter. This principle facilitates efficient daylight photoluminescence imaging, a noninvasive method enabling rapid image acquisition without altering PV system hardware or software.

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 1988

Deepwater Renewal in a Large, Deep Lake (Lake Geneva): Identifying and Quantifying Winter Cooling Processes Using Heat Budget Decomposition

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract Wintertime deepwater renewal, which is important for heat–oxygen–nutrient exchange in lakes, is traditionally considered to be mainly driven by 1D vertical convective cooling. However, differential cooling between shallow and deep waters can produce density currents that flow into deep layers.

Field Observations Reveal How Plunging Mixing and Sediment Resuspension Affect the Pathway of a Dense River Inflow Into a Deep Stratified Lake

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract The pathway of dense river inflows into lakes, which affects the lake water quality, is not accurately predicted by existing models. The pathway of a dense riverine inflow in a lake with a submerged canyon is analyzed based on measurements during a 4‐month period of weakening lake stratification and weakening density excess between river and ...

From Particles to Flocs: Revealing Where Flocculation Occurs in the Nearfield of a Negatively‐Buoyant River Plume in a Large Lake (Lake Geneva)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 129, Issue 2, February 2024.
Abstract The dynamics of sediments entering lakes in river plumes is virtually unknown. This field study provides unprecedented evidence of the initiation and evolution of suspended sediment flocculation in the nearfield of the negatively‐buoyant Rhône River plume, flowing as interflow in the thermocline of stratified Lake Geneva.
