Genetic analysis of milking ability in Lacaune dairy ewes [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2006
Abstract The milking ability of Lacaune ewes was characterised by derived traits of milk flow patterns, in an INRA experimental farm, from a divergent selection experiment in order to estimate the correlated effects of selection for protein and fat yields.

Islands of runs of homozygosity indicate selection signatures in Ovis aries 6 (OAR6) of French dairy sheep

open access: yesJDS Communications, 2021
Runs of homozygosity (ROH) are contiguous homozygous segments of the genome where the haplotypes inherited from each parent are identical. The occurrence of ROH is not randomly distributed across the genome, and ROH islands across many animals may be the

Study on Growth Performances of R1 Lacaune x Turcana Crossbred Lambs under Highlands Rearing Conditions

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Aim of the current research was to evaluate the effects that back-crossbreeding F1 Lacaune x Turcana ewes with Lacaune rams  has on the growth rates of the R1 progeny under highlands conditions. Researches were carried out at the Sheep and Goats Research

Plasmatic Profile of Pregnancy-Associated Glycoprotein (PAG) during Gestation and Postpartum in Sarda and Lacaune Sheep Determined with Two Radioimmunoassay Systems

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
This study was carried out to determine ovine pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (oPAG) levels in the plasma of Sarda and Lacaune ewes throughout gestation and in the first month postpartum, using two heterologous radioimmunoassays (RIA-706 and RIA-srPool)

EVOLUTION OF THE GROWTH SPEED UP TO THE AGE OF 8 MONTHS OF THE TURCANA X LACAUNE HYBRID YOUNG EWES COMPARED TO TURCANA ONES

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
This paper aimed the monitoring of the average daily gain, from birth until the age of 8 months, of White Turcana x Lacaune hybrid lambs in comparison with White Turcana lambs. The investigations were performed in S.C.D.C.O.C. Caransebes.

Estimation of genetic parameters and evaluation of test-day milk production in sheep

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2012
Genetic parameters and breeding values were estimated based on 11 708 daily milk yields from 2255 lactations (1351 sheep, 19 different flocks) between the years 2004 and 2010. The pedigree covered 2334 individuals, including both the recorded animals and

Relationships between external and internal udder measurements and the linear scores for udder morphology traits in dairy sheep

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2006
Udder morphology traits were measured and subjectively assessed by the use of linear scores in 266 ewes of Tsigai (T), Improved Walachian (IW) and Lacaune (LC) dairy breeds.

Two cases of freemartinism in Lacaune ewes

open access: yesJournal of the Hellenic Veterinary Medical Society, 2017
In this study the anatomy of the genital system, the histology of gonads, the reproductive behavior and the chromosome examinations of two freemartin Lacaune ewes were described. The appearance of these ewes resembled that of a ram, but their external genitalia were female with an enlarged clitoris.
