Effects of the FecL major gene in the Lacaune meat sheep population [PDF]
The major prolificacy gene FecL was first described in the Lacaune sheep meat breed Ovi-Test in 1998. A few studies estimated the effect of this gene on prolificacy but little data is available. In 2010, the Ovi-Test cooperative started genotyping FecL in all of their replacement ewe lambs.

The nutritional management during the transition period is crucial for sheep. This research highlighted a significant association between the energy intake of ewes and various factors, including their body weight, milk production and composition, production efficiency, as well as key blood biomarkers indicative of the metabolic status of the animals ...

ABSTRACT This paper aimed to estimate the heritability and genetic correlations for processability (milk coagulation properties, cheese yield, and heat stability), milk production, and milk composition of dairy sheep in a New Zealand flock. Test‐day records from 169 ewes were obtained during the 2021–2022 season. Heritability estimates for yield traits

Effect of subdivision of the Lacaune dairy sheep breed on the accuracy of genomic prediction
: Genomic selection was deployed in Lacaune dairy breed in 2015. Lacaune population split in 1972 into 2 breeding companies with associated flocks, and there have been very few exchanges of animals between the subpopulations, leading to divergence of the

Genomic selection strategies for the German Merino sheep breeding programme – A simulation study
Abstract Genomic selection is widely implemented in livestock breeding programmes across species. Its potential is also evident for sheep breeding; however, it has several limitations, particularly because of the high genetic diversity across and within sheep breeds. In Germany, the predominant sheep breed is the Merino sheep. Until now, there has been
