Farmers’ Preferences for Sustainable Crop Protection: An Integrated Choice and Latent Variable Approach

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study analyzes farmers' preferences for sustainable crop protection, focusing on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices by incorporating social‐psychological factors to capture economic and behavioral dimensions. Using data from German and Polish potato farmers, we apply an integrated choice and latent variable framework that combines

Seasonal occurrence and biological parameters of the common green lacewing predators of the common pistachio psylla, Agonoscena pistaciae (Hemiptera: Psylloidea)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2011
Species in the carnea complex of the common green lacewing are predators of the common pistachio psylla, Agonoscena pistaciae in both cultivated pistachio plantations and on wild pistachio plants in Iran. The seasonal occurrence of common green lacewings

Ant–aphid mutualism: the influence of Tapinoma ibericum (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) on Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphidae) control by commercial and spontaneous natural enemies

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The mutualism between Tapinoma ibericum ants and Aphis gossypii disrupts the biological control exerted by Aphidius colemani in greenhouse peppers. Ant exclusion increased parasitism and the presence of most natural enemies, although Aphidoletes aphidimyza was more abundant with ants.

Lacewings in crops: towards the future

open access: yes, 2009
In this book we have brought together some of the numerous studies which address the importance of lacewings in the crop environment; sufficient, we hope, to demonstrate the wide variety of contexts in which their values as predators are acknowledged and

The Morphological Diversity of Antlion Larvae and Their Closest Relatives over 100 Million Years

open access: yesInsects, 2022
Among lacewings (Neuroptera), representatives of the groups Ascalaphidae (owlflies) and Myrmeleontidae (antlions) are likely the most widely known ones. The exact taxonomic status of the two groups remains currently unclear, each may in fact be nested in

Comparing time‐lapse photography and traditional human observation in collecting crop pollinator visitation data Ajastetun valokuvauksen ja perinteisen suoran havainnoinnin vertailu kerättäessä tietoa pölyttäjien kukkakäynneistä viljelykasveilla

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Time‐lapse photography with commercially available trail cameras provides a competitive alternative to direct human observations for documenting pollinator flower visits, but its performance varies between crops. In apple, the cameras recorded more diverse pollinator assemblages than the human observer due to larger temporal coverage of the camera ...

Parasitic wasp‐associated polydnavirus and venom affect arthropod community assembly on wild cabbage via the caterpillar host

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Cotesia glomerata polydnavirus and venom, either alone or in combination, affect colonisation by members of the arthropod community in a natural field setting. Plants damaged by P. brassicae injected with both polydnavirus and venom were colonised more often by Mamestra brassicae caterpillars, Myzus persicae aphids and aphid parasitoids compared to ...

Field Attraction of Natural Enemies to Methyl Salicylate Differs Between Annual and Perennial Cropping Systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Methyl salicylate (MeSA) is an herbivore‐induced plant volatile (HIPV) known to attract natural enemies of herbivores; however, its effectiveness as a semiochemical across diverse cropping systems and broad geographic regions remains unclear. In this 2‐year field study, we sampled natural enemies using MeSA‐baited and unbaited (control) yellow
