Intervention using a novel biodegradable hollow stent containing polylactic acid-polyprolactone-polyethylene glycol complexes against lacrimal duct obstruction disease. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Lacrimal duct obstruction disease (LDOD) is a common ophthalmologic disease. Stent implantation surgery is one of the most effective therapies. In this study, we intended to find out the satisfactory biodegradable stents containing poly-L-lactic acid ...

A detailed redescription of a skeletally immature ‘Redondasaurus’ suggests ontogenetic transformations in the taxon mirror phytosaurian morphological evolution

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...

Sjögren Disease—B Cells at the Brink: From Autoimmunity to Lymphomagenesis and the Rise of Novel B Cell‐Targeted Therapies

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Sjögren disease (SjD) is a common systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by inflammation of the exocrine glands, resulting in dryness. Patients frequently exhibit extraglandular manifestations affecting various organ systems. To date, there are no FDA‐approved disease‐modifying therapies for SjD.

Nanostructured drug delivery systems for posterior segment eye diseases: Strategies to defy ocular barriers

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Efficient drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye has long been a challenging issue due to the complex ocular barriers. The review focuses on the promise held by nanoplatforms for barrier penetration and the key mechanisms involved, also highlighting their advantages in achieving efficient drug delivery and superior treatment of PSEDs ...

Modeling Chronic Dacryocystitis in Rabbits by Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction with Self-Curing Resin

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2017
We established a chronic dacryocystitis model by injecting of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 ml self-curing resin via the lacrimal punctum in rabbits. Animals were randomized into four groups (n=11 animals/group).

Iguratimod alleviated Sjögren's syndrome through regulating macrophage polarization

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice exhibited characteristic of Sjögren's syndrome (SS), with increased M1 macrophages and deceased M2 macrophages. Iguratimod alleviated SS‐like symptoms and restored balance of macrophage polarization through inhibiting the mitogen‐activated protein kinases pathway in NOD mice.

Computed tomography in treatment decision making in children with lacrimal drainage disorders

open access: yesOftalʹmologiâ, 2014
The impossibility of lacrimal apparatus direct examination impedes the diagnostics of its disorders, particularly in younger children. Modern diagnostic technology, multi-spiral computed tomography (CT), can help to resolve this problem.

Clinical perspectives and comparisons between immunoglobulin G4‐related disease and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody‐associated vasculitis

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Clinical perspectives and comparisons between immunoglobulin G4‐related disease and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody‐associated vasculitis. Abstract Both immunoglobulin (Ig) G4‐related disease (IgG4‐RD) and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)‐associated vasculitis (AAV) are systemic disorders that affect a wide range of organs.
