Changes in blood lactate concentration during active recovery at sub-lactate threshold, lactate threshold, and supra-lactate threshold exercise intensities.

open access: yes, 2009
The purpose of this investigation was to identify the intensity of recovery exercise, relevant to endurance event performance, that would result in the most rapid times for half decrease in blood lactate concentration, following 2 minutes of cycling at maximal rates.

A New Approach for the Determination of Ventilatory and Lactate Thresholds

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 1992
In order to determine the ventilatory threshold (VT) and the lactate threshold (LT) in a reliable way, a new method is proposed and compared with conventional methods. The new method consists of calculating the point that yields the maximal distance from a curve representing ventilatory and metabolic variables as a function of oxygen uptake (VO2) to ...

The effects of prior exercise on the lactate and ventilatory thresholds

Journal of Sports Sciences, 1985
This study examined the effects of prior exercise on the lactate (Tlac) and ventilatory (Tvent) thresholds. Ten healthy male subjects volunteered to perform one-legged cycling. Muscle glycogen reduction was achieved by cycling at 75-85% of maximal heart rate for 60-75 min, and by a low carbohydrate diet.

Computerized estimation of lactate threshold

Computers and Biomedical Research, 1986
Traditional approaches to estimating a lactate threshold during a progressive exercise test have utilized visual inspection of the data. We describe a computerized approach which utilizes a log-log transformation to yield two approximately linear segments. Linear regression lines are fit to these segments and the intersection of the two lines yields an

Lactate Threshold Concepts

Sports Medicine, 2009
During the last nearly 50 years, the blood lactate curve and lactate thresholds (LTs) have become important in the diagnosis of endurance performance. An intense and ongoing debate emerged, which was mainly based on terminology and/or the physiological background of LT concepts. The present review aims at evaluating LTs with regard to their validity in

Anaerobic threshold and lactate turnpoint

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1983
Venous lactate concentration and ventilatory responses to progressively increased work rates were studied in 16 men who performed an incremental exercise test to exhaustion on an electrically braked cycle ergometer. In this test the characteristic curvilinear increase in venous lactate concentrations was observed. In addition to the anaerobic threshold

Effects of training at and above the lactate threshold on the lactate threshold and maximal oxygen uptake

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1985
Thirty-three college women (mean age = 21.8 years) participated in a 5 d X wk-1, 12 week training program. Subjects were randomly assigned to 3 groups, above lactate threshold (greater than LT) (N = 11; trained at 69 watts above the workload associated with LT), = LT (N = 12; trained at the work load associated with LT) and control (C) (N = 10 ...

Lactate kinetics at the lactate threshold in trained and untrained men

Journal of Applied Physiology, 2013
To understand the meaning of the lactate threshold (LT) and to test the hypothesis that endurance training augments lactate kinetics [i.e., rates of appearance and disposal (Ra and Rd, respectively, mg·kg−1·min−1) and metabolic clearance rate (MCR, ml·kg−1·min−1)], we studied six untrained (UT) and six trained (T) subjects during 60-min exercise bouts
