An empirical analysis of the cost of rearing dairy heifers from birth to first calving and the time taken to repay these costs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rearing quality dairy heifers is essential to maintain herds by replacing culled cows. Information on the key factors influencing the cost of rearing under different management systems is, however, limited and many farmers are unaware of their true costs.

Microplastics from Wearable Bioelectronic Devices: Sources, Risks, and Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioelectronic devices (e.g., e‐skins) heavily rely on polymers that at the end of their life cycle will generate microplastics. For research, a holistic approach to viewing the full impact of such devices cannot be overlooked. The potential for devices as sources for microplastics is raised, with mitigation strategies surrounding polysaccharide and ...

The use of mid-infrared spectrometry to predict body energy status of Holstein cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Energy balance, especially in early lactation, is known to be associated with subsequent health and fertility in dairy cows. However, its inclusion in routine management decisions or breeding programs is hindered by the lack of quick, easy, and ...

Cold Quad‐Modal Nanocomplex for Precise and Quantitative In Vivo Stem Cell Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multimodal albumin–bismuth sulfide–superparamagnetic iron oxide (ABS) nanocomplexes are developed for stem cell tracking across four different imaging modalities: MRI, MPI, MSOT, and CT. Combining its flexibility with high sensitivity, this quad‐modal imaging agent enables a robust quantification of ABS‐labeled stem cells in vivo.

Conséquences de l’augmentation de la prolificité sur l’élevage des agneaux et sur la production de viande

open access: yesINRAE Productions Animales, 1991
L’accroissement de la taille de la portée entraîne une réduction du poids de chacun des agneaux produits. Cette diminution est de l’ordre de 20 % par agneau supplémentaire dans les races "classiques" et voisine de 15 % pour les races prolifiques.

Hybrid Microdiscs for Magnetically Induced Non‐Cytotoxic Thermal Actuation and Programmable Biomolecule Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetic microdiscs with customizable size and composition are engineered through refined photolithography and LbL assembly. Embedded Fe3O4 nanoparticles enable localized, non‐cytotoxic heating, while protein cargos can be incorporated in tunable quantities.

Human milk composition and infant anthropometrics: overview of a systematic review with clinical and research implications

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal
Background Despite global public health organizations endorsing breastfeeding or human milk (HM) as the optimal source of nutrition for infants, detailed knowledge of how HM composition influences infant growth is lacking. In this commentary we summarize

Facteurs de variation du taux protéique du lait de vache en exploitation : réflexions à partir de résultats d’enquêtes

open access: yesINRAE Productions Animales, 1991
En raison de ses conséquences sur la quantité et la qualité des produits transformés, la composition chimique du lait, et plus particulièrement le taux protéique, fait l’objet depuis quelques années de nombreux travaux d’enquête dans différentes ...
