Analysis of Non-Genetic Factors Affecting Wood’s Model of Daily Milk Fat Percentage of Holstein Cattle

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2022
This research paper aimed to explore the characteristics of Holstein cattle’s milk fat percentage lactation curve and its influencing factors. The Wood model was used for fitting the lactation curve of 398,449 DHI test-day milk fat percentage records of ...

Accuracy of predicting milk yield from alternative milk recording schemes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
peer-reviewedThe effect of reducing the frequency of official milk recording and the number of recorded samples per test-day on the accuracy of predicting daily yield and cumulative 305-day yield was investigated.

Genetic Relationship of Body Energy and Blood Metabolites with Reproduction in Holstein Cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Body condition score (BCS), energy content (EC), cumulative effective energy balance (CEEB), and blood serum concentrations of glucose, beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), and nonesterified fatty acids ( NEFA) were measured throughout first lactation in 497 ...

An Illustration of lactation curves stratified by lactation yields within herd [PDF]

open access: yesArchives Animal Breeding, 1999
Abstract. Based on the lactation curves ofa total of 817 cows from three herds the Variation of the shape of lactation curves is illustrated stratified by herd, lactation number and total lactation produetion. The data was collected from on-farm Computers connected to recording of yields on a daily basis. The results from this ongoing project show that

Genetic profile of total body energy content of Holstein cows in the first three lactations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Weekly total body energy content (TBEC) was calculated for 444 Holstein cows in their first 3 lactations. These calculations were based on body lipid and protein changes predicted from weekly changes in body condition score and live weight of each cow ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Induction of lactational estrus in organic piglet production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The longer lactation period required in organic piglet producing herds reduces the potential number of produced litters per sow per year compared with that of conventional production.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

On the mathematical description of lactation curves

open access: yesThe Journal of Agricultural Science, 1993
SUMMARYThe lactation curve may be represented mathematically by the general equationY= Aϕ1(t)ϕ2(t), whereAis a positive scalar, ϕ1,(t) is a positive monotonically increasing function with an asymptote at ϕ1= 1, and ϕ2is a monotonically decreasing function with an initial value of unity and an asymptote at ϕ2= 0.

Pilot study into milk haptoglobin as an indicator of udder health in heifers after calving [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mastitis, inflammation of the mammary gland, is often caused by intramammary infection with bacterial organisms. It impacts on dairy cattle welfare, production, udder health and longevity in the herd.
