Generation of Probiotic‐Based Multifunctional Hydrogels Capable of Carrying Oxygen and Anti‐Inflammatory Drugs and Their Effect on Cell Viability Under Hypoxic Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, Volume 114, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Hypoxia and chronic inflammation have an interdependent relationship, as they stimulate each other. Under inflammation, hypoxia occurs in tissues and under hypoxia, transcription factors induce overproduction of pro‐inflammatory cytokines, causing the chronic inflammatory process.

The assembly of tetrameric human L‐lactate dehydrogenase is regulated by ionic strength, β‐NADH binding, cyclic peptides, and long‐chain dicarboxylates

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Lactate dehydrogenases catalyze the reduction of pyruvate to lactate, the generation of which is of importance for the energetic metabolism of malignant cells. In particular, human cancer cells overexpress lactate dehydrogenase A (hLDH‐A), whose catalytic activity depends on its assembly into the corresponding homotetramer (denoted as hLDH‐5),

Clones of Lactobacillus Casei and Torulopsis Glabrata Associated with Recurrent Abdominal Wall Abscess

open access: yes, 2009
Infectious disease caused by Lactobacillus sp has not been previously reported in Taiwan. We present a case of recurrent abdominal wall abscess in a chronically ill 36- year-old woman, and review the literature on Lactobacillus infection.

Short- and long-term adaptation to ethanol stress and its cross-protective consequences in Lactobacillus plantarum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper describes the molecular responses of Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 toward ethanol exposure. Global transcriptome profiling using DNA microarrays demonstrated adaptation of the microorganism to the presence of 8% ethanol over short (10-min and ...

Qualitative Analysis of Chemical Composition Changes Before and After Lactobacillus Fermented Ziziphi Spinosae Semen by LC‐MS and Prediction of Fermentation Mechanism

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to screen dominant Lactobacillus strains for fermenting Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (ZSS), analyze chemical composition changes before and after fermentation, and speculate on the fermentation mechanism. Liquid fermentation of ZSS was conducted using Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and ...
