Lactobacillus mulieris sp. nov., a new species of Lactobacillus delbrueckii group
One Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, non-spore-forming, catalase-negative, and coccobacilli-shaped strain, designated c10Ua161MT, was isolated from a urine sample from a reproductive-age healthy woman.

Fourteen Gram-stain-positive bacterial strains were isolated from Chinese traditional pickle and yogurt. The strains were characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, pheS gene sequence analysis, rpoA gene sequence analysis, fatty acid methyl ester analysis, determination of DNA G+C content ...

Lactobacillus gastricus sp. nov., Lactobacillus antri sp. nov., Lactobacillus kalixensis sp. nov. and Lactobacillus ultunensis sp. nov., isolated from human stomach mucosa [PDF]
In an attempt to study the composition of the Lactobacillus flora from mucosa of human stomach, 16S rRNA gene sequences of 129 isolates were analysed. For 15 of these, the results differed significantly from known sequences, and additional tests were performed to determine whether these isolates represented as yet unrecognized species.

Lactobacillus acidifarinae sp. nov. and Lactobacillus zymae sp. nov., from wheat sourdoughs [PDF]
Three heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria, obtained from Greek and Belgian artisanal wheat sourdoughs, were preliminarily identified as Lactobacillus brevis-like after screening using whole-cell protein fingerprinting and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The three sourdough isolates showed nearly identical sequences (>99·7 % sequence similarity),

Lactobacillus kisonensis sp. nov., Lactobacillus otakiensis sp. nov., Lactobacillus rapi sp. nov. and Lactobacillus sunkii sp. nov., heterofermentative species isolated from sunki, a traditional Japanese pickle [PDF]
Thirty six Gram-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, non-motile bacterial strains were isolated from the non-salted pickle solution used in producing sunki products, a traditional Japanese pickle. The novel strains were discriminated and separated into four groups by amplified fragment length polymorphism profiling, and by analysis based on recA ...

Variation in honey bee gut microbial diversity affected by ontogenetic stage, age and geographic location [PDF]
Social honey bees, Apis mellifera, host a set of distinct microbiota, which is similar across the continents and various honey bee species. Some of these bacteria, such as lactobacilli, have been linked to immunity and defence against pathogens. Pathogen

Lactobacillus saniviri sp. nov. and Lactobacillus senioris sp. nov., isolated from human faeces [PDF]
Two Gram-stain-positive strains, YIT 12363T and YIT 12364T, were isolated from human faeces. They were rod-shaped, non-motile, asporogenous, facultatively anaerobic and did not exhibit catalase activity. Comparative analyses of 16S rRNA, pheS and rpoA gene sequences demonstrated that the novel strains were members of the genus Lactobacillus.

Lactobacillus oeni sp. nov., from wine [PDF]
Ten Lactobacillus strains, previously isolated from different Bobal grape wines from the Utiel-Requena Origin Denomination of Spain, were characterized phylogenetically, genotypically and phenotypically. The 16S rRNA genes were sequenced and phylogenetic analysis showed that they form a tight phylogenetic clade that is closely related to reference ...
