Genome signatures, self-organizing maps and higher order phylogenies: a parametric analysis [PDF]
Genome signatures are data vectors derived from the compositional statistics of DNA. The self-organizing map (SOM) is a neural network method for the conceptualisation of relationships within complex data, such as genome signatures.

Lactobacillus rossii sp. nov., isolated from wheat sourdough [PDF]
Screening of sourdough lactic acid bacteria for bacteriocin production resulted in the isolation of a Gram-positive, catalase-negative, non-spore-forming, non-motile rod bacterium (strain CS1T) that could not be associated with any previously described species.

Vaginal microbiota in menopause [PDF]
The human vagina together with its resident, microbiota, comprise a dynamic ecosystem. Normal microbiota is dominated by Lactobacillus species, and pathogen microbiota such as Gardnerella species and Bacteroides species can occur due to decrease in ...

Abstract The intestinal microbiome plays a pivotal role in maintaining host health through its involvement in gastrointestinal, immune, and central nervous system (CNS) functions. Recent evidence underscores the bidirectional communication between the microbiota, the gut, and the brain and the impact of this axis on neurological diseases, including ...

Lactobacillus paracollinoides sp. nov., isolated from brewery environments [PDF]
Three novel strains isolated from brewery environments are described. These strains were Gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, heterofermentative rods that did not exhibit catalase activity. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity showed that these strains belong to the genusLactobacillusand are most closely related ...

Lactobacillus uli sp. nov. and Lactobacillus rimae sp. nov. from the Human Gingival Crevice and Emended Descriptions of Lactobacillus minutus and Streptococcus parvulus [PDF]
Lactobacillus uli sp. nov. and Lactobacillus rimae sp. nov. are described. These organisms are short, gram-positive, strictly anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that have DNA G+C contents of 53 and 45 mol%, respectively, produce major amounts of lactic acid, and have been isolated from human gingival crevices and periodontal pockets.
