Rapid and portable methods of lactose tolerance test administration
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1975Abbreviated, portable methods of lactose tolerance test administration were investigated. Results obtained with the Ames Reflectance Meter/Dextrostix system for blood glucose determination during lactose tolerance testing were compared with those obtained from a standard method, the AutoAnalyzer. Subjects who had maximum blood glucose rises below 20 mg/

Oral lactose tolerance test in foals: Technique and normal values
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1985SUMMARY Oral lactose tolerance tests were evaluated in 25 healthy foals (principals) assigned to 4 groups of approximately 1 week, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks of age. Lactose monohydrate (1 g/kg of body weight [in a 20% water solution]) was administered via nasogastric tube after a 4-hour fast.

The relationship between lactose tolerance test results and symptoms of lactose intolerance.
The American journal of gastroenterology, 1997A standard for the assessment of lactose malabsorption does not exist. As measured by lactose tolerance tests, insufficient increase in blood glucose or increased breath hydrogen (H2) excretion after lactose ingestion is regarded as pathological. In this study, we have tried to elucidate the relationship between lactose tolerance test results and ...

Correlation Between Capillary and Venous Blood Glucose in the Lactose Tolerance Test
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 2015The lactose tolerance test is a classic method for the study of lactose malabsorption. However, the methodology used has not been standardized, and this leads to differences in results. The aim of this report was to analyze whether capillary blood glucose measurement is in agreement with venous blood glucose when performing lactose tolerance test. This ...

Urinary lactose tolerance test for the detection of lactose malabsorption
1998We investigated the frequency of hypolactasia by determining galactose excretion and galactose/creatinine ratios in two-hour urine collections after a standard loading of lactose in 47 healthy adult volunteers. Following overnight fasting, a solution containing 50 g of lactose was given.

Combined lactose-D-xylose tolerance test in infancy.
Digestion, 1976A modified combined oral lactose-D-xylose tolerance test done on ten normal infants showed peak levels of blood glucose and D-xylose levels comparable to the peaks obtained when these tests were done separately in the same subjects. The combined test is recommended to evaluate digestive absorptive function in preference to two separate tolerance tests.
