Farmers’ Preferences for Sustainable Crop Protection: An Integrated Choice and Latent Variable Approach

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study analyzes farmers' preferences for sustainable crop protection, focusing on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices by incorporating social‐psychological factors to capture economic and behavioral dimensions. Using data from German and Polish potato farmers, we apply an integrated choice and latent variable framework that combines

Dietary differentiation of two co‐occurring common bat species (Eptesicus nilssonii and Pipistrellus pygmaeus)

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Sympatric bat species can co‐exist and avoid interspecific competition via niche differentiation e.g. diet. Detecting dietary differences can be achieved by comparing dietary niches of sympatric and allopatric populations. If dietary overlap is higher in sympatry versus allopatry, co‐occurrence may be altering the dietary niche of the species.

Top-down control by Harmonia axyridis mitigates the impact of elevated atmospheric CO2 on a plant-aphid interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
1. The present study investigated the impact of elevated atmospheric CO2 (390 or 650 μmol/mol) on raspberry genotypes varying in resistance to the large raspberry aphid Amphorophora idaei and any subsequent impact on the coccinellid predator Harmonia ...

Significant resource niche overlap between competing parasitoids does not prevent their successful co‐existence

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Different species that exploit the same resources can sometimes co‐exist in the same habitat through resource sharing. For example, if resources are superabundant, then they can be easily partitioned interspecifically among different individuals. However, when resources

Asymptomatic host plant infection by the widespread pathogen Botrytis cinerea alters the life histories, behaviors, and interactions of an aphid and its natural enemies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plant pathogens can profoundly affect host plant quality as perceived by their insect herbivores, with potentially far-reaching implications for the ecology and structure of insect communities.
