European Code Against Cancer, 5th edition – hormone replacement therapy, other common medical therapies and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The 5th edition of the European Code Against Cancer (ECAC5) contains 14 recommendations on cancer prevention. Here, we update the cancer prevention recommendations regarding the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is positioned as recommendation number 13 of the ECAC5.

Phase Lag and Coherence Function of X-ray emission from Black Hole Candidate XTE J1550-564 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We report the results from measuring the phase lag and coherence function of X-ray emission from black hole candidate (BHC) XTE J1550-564. These X-ray temporal properties have been recognized to be increasingly important in providing important ...

A subset of MMR‐proficient colon cancers responds to neoadjuvant immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tan et al. reveal that a distinct subset of early‐stage pMMR colon cancers can respond to neoadjuvant immunotherapy. In the NICHE‐2 trial, responders (26%) were characterized by chromosomal instability, TP53 mutations, and proliferative cell‐cycle programs, whereas nonresponders showed metabolic and stromal reprogramming with TGF‐β‐driven ...

Nonlinear differential equations with deviating arguments and approximations via a Parker-Sochacki approach

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2017
The Parker-Sochacki method has been successful in generating approximations for a wide variety of ODEs, and even PDEs of evolution type, by achieving an autonomous polynomial vector field and implementing the Picard iteration.

Berberine–cinnamic acid co‐crystal effect in ameliorating hyperlipidemia might be regulated through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR/SREBP‐1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Berberine–cinnamic acid co‐crystal (BBR‐CA) inhibits the phosphorylation of the phosphatidylinositol 3‐kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, suppressing the transfer of pre‐sterol regulatory element‐binding proteins‐1 (SREBP‐1) from the endoplasmic reticulum to the nucleus. This results in a decrease in the expression level of

Potential role of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in air pollution-induced non-malignant respiratory diseases

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2020
Epidemiological studies have found strong associations between air pollution and respiratory effects including development and/or exacerbation of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as increased occurrence of respiratory ...

Dissipation and lag in irreversible processes

open access: yes, 2009
When a system is perturbed by the variation of external parameters, a lag generally develops between the actual state of the system and the equilibrium state corresponding to the current parameter values. We establish a microscopic, quantitative relation

Zero-lag long-range synchronization via dynamical relaying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We show that simultaneous synchronization between two delay-coupled oscillators can be achieved by relaying the dynamics via a third mediating element, which surprisingly lags behind the synchronized outer elements.

Establishment and optimization of the two‐step induction system for generating primordial germ cell‐like cells from chicken embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study optimizes a two‐step induction system to generate PGCLCs from chicken ESCs. The induced cells express germline markers and migrate to gonads in ovo, offering a novel approach for avian genetic resource conservation. Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the progenitor cells of sperm and eggs.
