Gauss-Bonnet dark energy by Lagrange multipliers

open access: yes, 2013
A string-inspired effective theory of gravity, containing Gauss-Bonnet invariant interacting with a scalar field, is considered in view of obtaining cosmological dark energy solutions. A Lagrange multiplier is inserted into the action in order to achieve

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Signes du pouvoir militaire : de l’épée de connétable au bâton de maréchal

open access: yesBulletin du Centre de Recherche du Château de Versailles, 2006
The Army Museum’s collections, and the Invalides building itself, include a number of objects and representations typical of the military power, especially as a commanding one.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Confirmation of Lagrange Hypothesis for Twisted Elastic Rod

open access: yes, 2011
The history of structural optimization as an exact science begins possibly with the celebrated Lagrange problem: to find a curve which by its revolution about an axis in its plane determines the rod of greatest efficiency.

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Passive Shape‐Adaptive Fluidic Interface for Enhanced Skin‐Sensor Coupling in Wearable Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a passive fluidic interface for wearable biosensors that adapts to static and dynamic body shape changes to maintain consistent skin contact. Flexible, fluid‐filled pouches redistribute pressure from high‐load areas to regions requiring improved contact, enhancing signal quality and comfort in a compact, low‐energy design for ...

Lagrange multiplier based transport theory for quantum wires

open access: yes, 2004
We discuss how a Lagrange multiplier method of non-equilibrium steady state statistical mechanics can be applied to describe the electronic transport in a quantum wire. We describe a theoretical scheme using tight-binding model.

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Close-in compact super-Earth systems emerging from resonant chains: Slow destabilization by unseen remnants of formation

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Planet formation simulations consistently predict compact systems of numerous small planets in chains of mean motion resonances formed by planet-disk interaction, but transiting planet surveys have found most systems to be non-resonant and somewhat ...
