Characterising the post-red supergiant binary system AFGL 4106 and its complex nebula with SPHERE/VLT

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Mass loss in evolved massive stars plays a critical role in shaping their circumstellar environments and enriching the interstellar medium. In binary systems, stellar interactions can further complicate this process, affecting stellar evolution,

Limit point buckling of a finite beam on a nonlinear foundation

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2014
In this paper, we consider an imperfect finite beam lying on a nonlinear foundation, whose dimensionless stiffness is reduced from 1 to k as the beam deflection increases.

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Porphyry on Asclepius’s and the Gods’ Departure from Rome

open access: yesReligions
Eusebius transmits a fragment of Porphyry’s Contra Christianos in which the philosopher claimed that a disease or plague (νόσος) had seized the city for many years because there was no longer any sojourn (ἐπιδημία) of Asclepius and the gods there ...

A Perspective on Interactive Theorem Provers in Physics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Into an interactive theorem provers (ITPs), one can write mathematical definitions, theorems and proofs, and the correctness of those results is automatically checked. This perspective goes over the best usage of ITPs within physics and motivates the open‐source community run project PhysLean, the aim of which is to be a library for digitalized physics

The Gaia GSP-Spec catalogue of interstellar extinctions, and stellar luminosities, radii, and masses

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The Gaia/DR3 GSP-Spec module has published the atmospheric parameters of up to 5.6 million stars based on the analysis of their Radial Velocity Spectrometer spectra.

In‐Process Magnetization for 3D Printing of Magnetorheological Elastomer with Heterogeneous Magnetic Profile for Anisotropic Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fully programmable, in‐process 3D magnetization integrated with multi‐material printing enables soft magnetic systems with precise actuation and sensing. Discrete and continuous magnetization profiles drive bending, morphing, and locomotion, demonstrated through strain‐sensing elements, dragonfly‐inspired wings, octopus‐like tentacles, and a serpentine

Dust dynamics in disk dust traps and late planetesimal formation

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Streaming instability (SI) is currently the leading model for planetesimal formation in protoplanetary disks, but it typically operates on the radial drift timescale of solids toward the star, that is, within approximately the first million ...
