Numerical modeling of droplet trajectories and collection efficiency using the Lagrangian approach

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học và Công nghệ
The paper presents a numerical method for investigating the motion of supercooled water droplets in airflow using the Lagrangian approach. The method is employed to compute droplet trajectories and capture efficiency on solid surfaces under two-phase ...

Spectral-clustering approach to Lagrangian vortex detection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2016
One of the ubiquitous features of real-life turbulent flows is the existence and persistence of coherent vortices. Here we show that such coherent vortices can be extracted as clusters of Lagrangian trajectories. We carry out the clustering on a weighted graph, with the weights measuring pairwise distances of fluid trajectories in the extended phase ...

An Augmented Lagrangian‐Based Approach to the Oseen Problem [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2006
We describe an effective solver for the discrete Oseen problem based on an augmented Lagrangian formulation of the corresponding saddle point system. The proposed method is a block triangular preconditioner used with a Krylov subspace iteration like BiCGStab.

Comparison of Different Approaches to Construct First Integrals for Ordinary Differential Equations

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
Different approaches to construct first integrals for ordinary differential equations and systems of ordinary differential equations are studied here. These approaches can be grouped into three categories: direct methods, Lagrangian or partial Lagrangian

Geometric Approaches to Lagrangian Averaging

open access: yesAnnual Review of Fluid Mechanics
Lagrangian averaging theories, most notably the generalized Lagrangian mean (GLM) theory of Andrews and McIntyre, have been primarily developed in Euclidean space and Cartesian coordinates. We reinterpret these theories using a geometric, coordinate-free formulation. This gives central roles to the flow map, its decomposition into mean and perturbation

A lagrangian dual approach to the single source localization problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The single-source localization problem (SSLP), which is nonconvex by its nature, appears in several important multidisciplinary fields such as signal processing and the global positioning system.

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

A Discrete Approach to Meshless Lagrangian Solid Modeling

open access: yesComputation, 2017
The author demonstrates a stable Lagrangian solid modeling method, tracking the interactions of solid mass particles rather than using a meshed grid. This numerical method avoids the problem of tensile instability often seen with smooth particle applied ...

Lagrangian Approach to Sheaves of Vertex Algebras [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2008
We explain how sheaves of vertex algebras are related to mathematical structures encoded by a class of Lagrangians. The exposition is focused on two examples: the WZW model and the (1,1)-supersymmetric $σ$-model. We conclude by showing how to construct a family of vertex algebras with base the Barannikov-Kontsevich moduli space.

Lagrangian structures and multidimensional consistency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The conventional point of view is that the Lagrangian is a scalar object (or equivalently a volume form), which through the Euler-Lagrange equations provides us with one single equation (i.e., one per component of the dependent variable ...
