A Fourier approach to Lagrangian vortex detection [PDF]
We study the transport properties of coherent vortices over a finite-time duration. Here, we reveal that such vortices can be identified based on the frequency-domain representation of Lagrangian trajectories. We use Fourier analysis to convert particles’ trajectories from their time domain to a presentation in the frequency domain.

Precipitation Moisture Sources of Ethiopian River Basins and Their Role During Drought Conditions
In this study, we identified and investigated the annual climatological moisture sources for the Ethiopian river basins during 1980–2018. First, according to cluster analysis, the 12 river basins of this country were grouped into four regions: northeast (

Lagrangian approach in spin-oscillations problem
Lagrangian of electronic liquid in magneto-inhomogeneous micro-conductor has been constructed. A corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation has been solved. It was shown that the described system has eigenmodes of spin polarization and total electric current ...

Competing Lagrangians for incompressible and compressible viscous flow [PDF]
A recently proposed variational principle with a discontinuous Lagrangian for viscous flow is reinterpreted against the background of stochastic variational descriptions of dissipative systems, underpinning its physical basis from a different viewpoint ...

Spectral-clustering approach to Lagrangian vortex detection [PDF]
One of the ubiquitous features of real-life turbulent flows is the existence and persistence of coherent vortices. Here we show that such coherent vortices can be extracted as clusters of Lagrangian trajectories. We carry out the clustering on a weighted graph, with the weights measuring pairwise distances of fluid trajectories in the extended phase ...

An Augmented Lagrangian‐Based Approach to the Oseen Problem [PDF]
We describe an effective solver for the discrete Oseen problem based on an augmented Lagrangian formulation of the corresponding saddle point system. The proposed method is a block triangular preconditioner used with a Krylov subspace iteration like BiCGStab.

The Fundamental Lepage Form in Two Independent Variables: A Generalization Using Order-Reducibility
A second-order generalization of the fundamental Lepage form of geometric calculus of variations over fibered manifolds with 2-dimensional base is described by means of insisting on (i) an equivalence relation “Lepage differential 2-form is closed if and

Numerical modeling of droplet trajectories and collection efficiency using the Lagrangian approach
The paper presents a numerical method for investigating the motion of supercooled water droplets in airflow using the Lagrangian approach. The method is employed to compute droplet trajectories and capture efficiency on solid surfaces under two-phase ...
