Effects of time since invasion and control actions on a coastal ecosystem invaded by non‐native pine trees

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 3, Issue 1, January–March 2022., 2022
Pine invasion reduced native species abundance, plant cover, richness and diversity, with an increase over time since invasion. Species diversity and richness were lower in the managed area than in the area that had not been invaded. Restoration activities are therefore required to increase native species diversity.

The benefits of bivalve reef restoration: A global synthesis of underrepresented species

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 30, Issue 11, Page 2050-2065, November 2020., 2020
Abstract Bivalve habitat restoration is growing in geographic extent and scale globally. While addressing the wide‐scale loss of these biogenic habitats is still a key motivation behind restoration efforts, stakeholders and funders are increasingly drawn to shellfish restoration for the many ecosystem services these habitats provide.

Trophic niche similarities of sympatric Turdus thrushes determined by fecal contents, stable isotopes, and bipartite network approaches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 10, Issue 17, Page 9073-9084, September 2020., 2020
Niche dimensions are measurable and describe how species share resources, which has been thought to be a crucial mechanism for coexistence and a major driver of broad biodiversity patterns. Morphologically, similar species of thrushes (Turdus spp.) are generalist species, but distinct, despite overlapping feeding habits allow coexistente.

BioTIME: A database of biodiversity time series for the Anthropocene

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 27, Issue 7, Page 760-786, July 2018., 2018
Abstract Motivation The BioTIME database contains raw data on species identities and abundances in ecological assemblages through time. These data enable users to calculate temporal trends in biodiversity within and amongst assemblages using a broad range of metrics.

Domestic cat predation on Neotropical species in an insular Atlantic Forest remnant in southeastern Brazil

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 167-175, June 2014., 2014
The domestic cat Felis silvestris catus is considered a potential threat to the native fauna of regions it populates, particularly when it has free access to these areas. Although this problem is known in Brazil, little is known regarding the effects of this species on natural areas.

Essential Oils from Fruits with Different Colors and Leaves of Neomitranthes obscura (DC.) N. Silveira: An Endemic Species from Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Neomitranthes obscura (DC.) N. Silveira is an endemic plant of Brazilian Atlantic Forest and widely spread in the sandbanks of “Restinga de Jurubatiba” National Park. It is popularly known by local population as “camboim‐de‐cachorro” or “cambuí‐preto” and recognized by its black ripe fruits.

Exploring the Links between Ethnobotany, Local Therapeutic Practices, and Protected Areas in Santa Catarina Coastline, Brazil

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We investigated the knowledge of medicinal plants in two areas proposed for the creation of protected areas for sustainable use in the city of Imbituba (SC). In this study, we analyzed the influence of gender, form of learning, and modern medicine on medicinal plant knowledge while also reflecting on the relationship of this knowledge to in situ ...

The 2011 submarine volcanic eruption in El Hierro (Canary Islands) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Forty years after the Teneguía Volcano (La Palma, 1971), a submarine eruption took place off the town of La Restinga, south of El Hierro, the smallest and youngest island of the Canarian Archipelago. Precursors allowed an early detection of the event and
