Stromatolites in Crater-Lake Alchichica and Bacalar Lagoon
Cuatro Ciénegas Basin: an Endangered Hyperdiverse Oasis, 2020Extant stromatolites have been considered ecological similes to their ancient counterparts. We now know that these microbial assemblages are composed of a great diversity of microbes, which couple and intertwine their metabolic capabilities to create self-sustained microbial ecosystems.

Dynamic response to mountain breeze circulation in Alchichica, a crater lake in Mexico [PDF]
In this paper we discuss the dynamic response to mountain breeze circulation in Alchichica, a deep crater lake in Mexico. A numerical model was used to simulate integrated drift currents based on wind data sampled at 1‐h intervals. The results are compared with those measured by an ADCP.

Zootaxa, 2017Morphological analysis of all developmental stages (except female), mitochondrial DNA sequences from cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1) and cytological analysis of the polytene chromosomes were used to describe a new species of Chironomus found in the littoral and profundal zones of an endorheic, warm-monomictic lake in Mexico.
