Wireless actuation of bulk acoustic modes in micromechanical resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We report wireless actuation of a Lamb wave micromechanical resonator from a distance of over 1 m with an efficiency of over 15%. Wireless actuation of conventional micromechanical resonators can have broad impact in a number of applications from ...

Nonpenetrating Damage Identification Using Hybrid Lamb Wave Modes from Hilbert-Huang Spectrum in Thin-Walled Structures

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2017
Lamb waves have shown promising advantages for damage identification in thin-walled structures. Multiple modes of Lamb wave provide diverse sensitivities to different types of damage.

Detection of coatings within liquid-filled tubes and containers by mode conversion of leaky Lamb waves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sensors and Sensor Systems, 2013
In this paper, a new acoustic sensor principle for coating detection within liquid-filled tubes and containers based on mode conversion of leaky Lamb waves is introduced.

Three-dimensional edge waves in plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper describes the propagation of three-dimensional symmetric waves localized near the traction-free edge of a semi-infinite elastic plate with either traction-free or fixed faces.

Air-coupled, focused ultrasonic dispersion spectrum reconstruction in plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper presents and demonstrates a noncontact method for measuring the Lamb wave dispersion spectrum of a plate. Noncontact air-coupled source and receive transducers are used with line-focus mirrors and 50–700 kHz broadband apparatus for ...

Lamb Wave Directional Sensing with Piezoelectric Fiber Rosette in Structure Health Monitoring

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
Directional piezoelectric sensors can detect the Lamb wave propagation direction to locate damage in structural health monitoring (SHM). The directivity of the round piezoelectric fiber is exploited with a 0°/45°/90° rosette configuration to acquire ...

Numerical modeling and measurement by pulsed television holography of ultrasonic displacement maps in plates with through-thickness defects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a novel numerical modeling of ultrasonic Lamb and Rayleigh wave propagation and scattering by through-thickness defects like holes and slots in homogeneous plates, and its experimental verification in both near and far field by a self ...

Peri-Elastodynamic Simulations of Guided Ultrasonic Waves in Plate-Like Structure with Surface Mounted PZT

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Peridynamic based elastodynamic computation tool named Peri-elastodynamics is proposed herein to simulate the three-dimensional (3D) Lamb wave modes in materials for the first time.

Global Winds Shape Planetary‐Scale Lamb Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
In 2022, the Hunga volcano eruption in Tonga generated atmospheric pressure waves that propagated globally and produced tsunamis in all the world's oceans.

Subsonic Lamb waves in anisotropic plates [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 2002
A six-dimensional complex formalism for analysis of Lamb waves propagating with subsonic speed in anisotropic plates is formulated. Conditions for nonexistence of certain Lamb waves in anisotropic plates are obtained. An example of a transversely isotropic plate having “forbidden” speed at which no subsonic Lamb wave propagates is presented.
