The onset of $\Lambda\Lambda$ hypernuclear binding

open access: yes, 2019
Binding energies of light, $A\leq 6$, $\Lambda\Lambda$ hypernuclei are calculated using the stochastic variational method in a pionless effective field theory (EFT) approach at leading order with the purpose of assessing critically the onset of binding in the strangeness S=-2 hadronic sector.

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Attribute annotation and bias evaluation in visual datasets for autonomous driving

open access: yesJournal of Big Data
This paper addresses the often overlooked issue of fairness in the autonomous driving domain, particularly in vision-based perception and prediction systems, which play a pivotal role in the overall functioning of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs).

Fuzzy Clustering with Uninorm-Based Distance Measure

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we suggest an algorithm of fuzzy clustering with a uninorm-based distance measure. The algorithm follows a general scheme of fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering, but in contrast to the existing algorithm, it implements logical distance between ...

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

$\Xi^{-} d\to n\Lambda\Lambda$ and the $\Lambda\Lambda$ final state interaction

open access: yes, 1997
The reaction $\Xi^-d\to n\Lambda\Lambda$ is studied within the framework of the Faddeev equations as a possible tool to gain insight into the final state $\Lambda$--$\Lambda$ interaction. The neutron differential energy spectrum gives a final state interaction that is sensitive to both the $\Lambda$--$\Lambda$ amplitude at threshold, and the coupling ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
