Information Theory: Deep Ideas, Wide Perspectives, and Various Applications

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
The history of information theory, as a mathematical principle for analyzing data transmission and information communication, was formalized in 1948 with the publication of Claude Shannon’s famous paper “A Mathematical Theory of Communication” [...]

On \(\Lambda\)-Elastica

open access: yesJournal of Geometry and Symmetry in Physics, 2019
In this paper, we investigate a transition from an elastica to a piece-wised elastica whose connected point defines the hinge angle $\phi_0$; we refer the piece-wised elastica $\Lambda_{\phi_0}$-elastica or $\Lambda$-elastica. The transition appears in the bending beam experiment; we compress elastic beams gradually and then suddenly due the rupture ...

ON AUTOMORPHISMS OF ${\mathcal {P}}(\lambda )/[\lambda ]^{<\lambda }$

open access: yesThe Journal of Symbolic Logic
Abstract We investigate the statement “all automorphisms of ${\mathcal {P}}(\lambda )/[\lambda ]^{<\lambda }$ are trivial.” We show that MA implies the statement for regular uncountable $\lambda <2^{\aleph _0}$ , that the statement is false for measurable $\lambda $

Double $\Lambda$ and the $\Lambda-\Lambda$ Interaction

open access: yes, 1997
The $\Lambda$-$\Lambda$ effective interaction, in the channel $L=S=0$, in the nuclear medium is fitted to the available binding energies, $B_{\Lambda\Lambda}$, of double $\Lambda$ hypernuclei: $^{6}_{\Lambda\Lambda}$He, $^{10}_{\Lambda\Lambda}$Be and $^{13}_{\Lambda\Lambda}$B. The mesonic decay of these hypernuclei is also investigated.

Precision targeting of genetic variations in mixed bacterial cultures using CRISPR-Cas12a-programmed λ phages

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
The CRISPR-Cas system, an adaptive immune mechanism in prokaryotes against bacteriophages, has been developed into a versatile tool for recognizing and cleaving target nucleic acid sequences.

Nonhuman Primate Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells in Regenerative Medicine

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2012
Among the various species from which induced pluripotent stem cells have been derived, nonhuman primates (NHPs) have a unique role as preclinical models.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Estimating present‐day European seasonal mean rainfall by combining historical data and climate model simulations, for risk assessment

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, 2021
Building risk models for present‐day climate requires an understanding of recent climate trends. To estimate the climate change driven component of recent rainfall trends in Europe, we introduce a novel methodology for combining trend estimates from ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
