High levels of congenital transmission of toxoplasma gondii in longitudinal and cross-sectional studies on sheep farms provides evidence of vertical transmission in ovine hosts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Recent research suggests that vertical transmission may play an important role in sustaining Toxoplasma gondii infection in some species. We report here that congenital transmission occurs at consistently high levels in pedigree Charollais and outbred ...

Cell Calcification Models and Their Implications for Medicine and Biomaterial Research

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Calcification, is the process by which the tissues containing minerals are formed, occurring during normal physiological processes, or in pathological conditions. Here, it is aimed to give a comprehensive overview of the range of cell models available, and the approaches taken by these models, highlighting when and how methodological divergences arise,

Human amnion epithelial cells modulate the inflammatory response to ventilation in preterm lambs. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Ventilation of preterm neonates causes pulmonary inflammation that can contribute to lung injury, propagate systemically and result in long-term disease. Modulation of this initial response may reduce lung injury and its sequelae.

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Lambs Weaned Early onto a Herb-Clover Mix Have the Potential to Grow at a Similar Rate to Unweaned Lambs on a Grass-Predominant Pasture

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Liveweight gain of lambs weaned early at a minimum live weight of 14 kg, at ~50 days of age, onto a herb-clover mix was compared with lambs that remained unweaned on a grass-predominant pasture or a herb-clover mix until conventional weaning (at ~99 days

Variations in water use by a mature mangrove of Avicennia germinans, French Guiana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the tropical intertidal zones, little is known on water uptake by mangroves. Transpiration rates are generally measured at leaf level, but few studies exist on water use at tree or stand levels.

Accelerating Luminescence in Nanostructures: Exploring the Physical Limits and Impact of Ultrafast Emission in Nanoscale Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in accelerating luminescence in nanostructures through cooperative emission, resonator coupling, and nonlocal light–matter interactions. By unifying concepts such as excitonic superradiance, superfluorescence, and the plasmonic Purcell effect, it reveals physical limits of ultrafast emission and their potential ...

Lamb's Problem

open access: yesBulletin of the Institute of Mathematics Academia Sinica NEW SERIES
Summary: We derive an explicit solution representation for the Lamb's problem. The solution formula is given in terms of the fundamental solutions of the d'Alembert wave equations, the Kirchhoff's formula in 3-D and the Hadamard's formula in 2-D, when the Poisson ratio \(\frac{1}{2} \lambda/(\lambda +\mu)\) is less than or equal to a critical value ...

Sap flow measurements of Ceriops tagal and Rhizophora mucronata mangrove trees by deuterium tracing and lysimetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Mangrove forest trees grow in severe conditions such as diurnal submersion and high salinity surface and subsurface waters. This study focuses on two species on Mayotte Island, i.e.

Piezoelectric‐Metal Phononic Crystal Enabling GHz Tunable Ultrahigh Q Quasi‐BIC Mode

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a piezoelectric–metal phononic crystal design based on suspended LiNbO3 thin film that realizes quasi‐BIC resonance. The device achieves GHz operation with an ultrahigh quality factor (≈6.5 × 104) and efficient electrical tunability at low voltage.
