Abstract Valuing parental engagement, as part of home–school collaboration, can benefit children's learning. This article focuses on parents and school‐based staff's (N = 120) experiences of children's learning occurring at home during the COVID‐19 lockdowns (2020–2021), both school‐mandated and other learning activities.

Abstract Recently, the concept ‘queer joy’ has gained interest in LGBT+ scholarship in the West. I use this scholarship as an entry point to explore how school‐attending LGBT+ youth express joy and how joy serves as a form of resistance against gender and sexuality norms in educational settings.

Drawing upon resource‐based and legitimacy theories, we examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with the business model that is based on having a small institution size.
