Winter diet of Korean long‐tailed goral Naemorhedus caudatus: natural foraging and post‐wildfire supplementary feeding revealed by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January 2026.
Understanding the winter diets of endangered ungulates is critical for developing effective conservation strategies in temperate ecosystems, where seasonal fluctuations significantly affect food availability. The long‐tailed goral Naemorhedus caudatus, an herbivorous ungulate listed as a category I ‘Endangered species' (EN) under the Korean Wildlife ...

‘Dispersification’ of Agalinis (Orobanchaceae) Into South America Is Associated With Hummingbird Pollination and Perennial Life‐History Shifts

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Several mechanisms contribute to the plant biodiversity of the Neotropics, with the highlands of South America serving as important hotspots of diversity. In particular, the Brazilian highlands exhibit high biodiversity due to complex diversification dynamics and a mixture of contributions from different biomes.

Pair-flowered cymes in the Lamiales: structure, distribution and origin [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2013
In the Lamiales, indeterminate thyrses (made up of axillary cymes) represent a significant inflorescence type. However, it has been largely overlooked that there occur two types of cymes: (1) ordinary cymes, and (2) 'pair-flowered cymes' (PFCs), with a flower pair (terminal and front flower) topping each cyme unit.

Systematic analysis of DEMETER-like DNA glycosylase genes shows lineage-specific Smi-miR7972 involved in SmDML1 regulation in Salvia miltiorrhiza

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
DEMETER-like DNA glycosylases (DMLs) initiate the base excision repair-dependent DNA demethylation to regulate a wide range of biological processes in plants.

Strobilanthes sharavathiensis (Acanthaceae), a new species from Ambaragudda, a high‐altitude shola grassland, central Western Ghats, Karnataka, India

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2025, Issue 12, December 2025.
Strobilanthes sharavathiensis, a newly discovered species from the high‐altitude shola grasslands of the Sharavathi river basin in the central Western Ghats, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, this species is closely allied to Strobilanthes jomyi, particularly in its pendulous spike inflorescence, exerted stamens and glandular hairs near ...

Mixed effects of urbanization on pollination services among four native plant species

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 6, Page 1184-1195, December 2025.
We tested urbanization and fragmentation effects on pollination services using four native phytometer species that were deployed across 10 community gardens located in suburban and densely urbanized areas Landscape context generally did not influence pollination; however, for one of four phytometers (Lobelia siphilitica, pictured above) urban cover ...

Excito-repellency Activity of Andrographis paniculata (Lamiales: Acanthaceae) Against Colonized Mosquitoes

open access: yesJournal of Medical Entomology, 2019
Abstract Excito-repellency activity of plant extracts have been increasingly studied as mosquito repellents. In this study, the crude extract of Andrographis paniculata was evaluated for its noncontact repellency, contact excitation (irritancy + repellency), and knockdown/toxicity response against five colonized mosquitoes; Aedes aegypti

The genome sequence of the Lesser Skullcap, Scutellaria minor Huds., 1762 (Lamiaceae) [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research
We present a genome assembly from an individual Scutellaria minor (Tracheophyta; Magnoliopsida; Lamiales; Lamiaceae). The genome sequence is 341.8 megabases in span. Most of the assembly is scaffolded into 14 chromosomal pseudomolecules.
