Sterile Surgical Helmet System in Elective Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2011
Purpose. To evaluate the sterility of the sterile surgical helmet system (SSHS) during elective total hip and knee arthroplasty in theatres with (n=20) and without (n=20) laminar flow. Methods. Three surgeons performed 14 total knee arthroplasties (TKAs)

Tunable Tactile Synapses Enabled by Erasable Doping in Iongel‐Gated Nanotube Network Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Artificial tactile synaptic sensors are realized by an iongel‐gated single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) transistor with reversible doping characteristics. The device senses and memorizes tactile stimuli and exhibits gate bias‐dependent excitatory or inhibitory synaptic behavior.

Dual‐Mode Film Based on Highly Scattering Nanofibers and Upcycled Chips‐Bags for Year‐Round Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent radiative cooling devices, adaptable to various weather conditions, have the potential for year‐round energy savings. This study introduces a sustainable dual‐mode film made from polycaprolactone nanofibers and upcycled chip bags for effective thermal management.

Research on flow characteristics of aerostatic circular thrust bearing

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2018
In order to improve the pressure distribution, the aerostatic circular thrust bearing with single supply hole was studied. In the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation, the laminar model, the turbulent model, the mixture model of laminar and ...

Lagrangian transport and chaotic advection in three-dimensional laminar flows [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Transport and mixing of scalar quantities in fluid flows is ubiquitous in industry and Nature. Turbulent flows promote efficient transport and mixing by their inherent randomness. Laminar flows lack such a natural mixing mechanism and efficient transport is far more challenging.

Alleviation of Aging‐Related Hallmarks in a Mouse Model of Progeria via a Nanoparticle‐Based Artificial Transcription Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oct4‐nanoscript, a biomimetic nanoparticle‐based artificial transcription factor, precisely regulates cellular rejuvenation by activating Oct4 target genes, restoring epigenetic marks, and reducing DNA damage. In a progeria model, it effectively rescued aging‐associated pathologies and extended lifespan.

Improved representation of laminar and turbulent sheet flow in subglacial drainage models

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Subglacial hydrology models struggle to reproduce seasonal drainage patterns that are consistent with observed subglacial water pressures and surface velocities. We modify the standard sheet-flow parameterization within a coupled sheet–channel subglacial

Performance of high-speed hydrodynamic sliding bearings with lubricating oils combining laminar and turbulent flows

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
High-speed hydrodynamic sliding bearings use lubricating oil that can have laminar and turbulent flow states, yet turbulent states remain relatively unstudied.

Absolute linear instability in laminar and turbulent gas/liquid two-layer channel flow [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
We study two-phase stratified flow where the bottom layer is a thin laminar liquid and the upper layer is a fully-developed gas flow. The gas flow can be laminar or turbulent. To determine the boundary between convective and absolute instability, we use Orr--Sommerfeld stability theory, and a combination of linear modal analysis and ray analysis.

Using Recycled Materials in a Novel Dual Binder System for Hard Carbon Anodes: Closing the Loop Toward Sustainable Li‐/Na‐ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study explores for the first time the use of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), particularly recycled PVB, as a sustainable binder for Li/Na‐based electrodes in the framework of the H2020 SUNRISE EU project. Findings revealed that electrodes bound with a sustainable PAA/PVB mixture demonstrated exceptional rate capability and high initial Coulombic ...
