THE EFFECTS OF WOOD SPECIES, LOAD DIRECTION, AND ADHESIVES ON BENDING PROPERTIES OF LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER

open access: yesBioResources, 2012
In this study, the bending strength and stiffness of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) produced from beech (Fagus orientalis L.), poplar (Populus x euramericana I-214), and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis W.

Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Reinforced Poplar Laminated Veneer Lumber

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
Three types of reinforcement materials, a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheet, a glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) mesh, and a composite of the CFRP sheet and GFRP mesh, were used to reinforce poplar laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and the ...

Free Vibrations of Sustainable Laminated Veneer Lumber Slabs

open access: yes, 2023
In this paper, the results of dynamic laboratory tests of four laminated veneer lumber (LVL) slabs of different thicknesses, widths, and types were presented. In three of the tested slabs, LVL with all veneers glued lengthwise was used (LVL R).

Comparative Performance Analysis of Various Flat Plate Solar Collectors Incorporating Spiral and Square Arrangement of Circular Type Riser Tube

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Three flat‐plate collectors with spiral and square coiled riser tubes were tested and it was found that the spiral type provides the best results with a thermal efficiency of 66.98% for a mass flow rate of 0.4 kg/min. Riser tube geometry is a key factor in optimizing flat‐plate collector output.

Mechanical Behaviour of Vacuum‐Infused GFRP Composites at Elevated Temperatures—Influence of Fibre Architecture

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study addresses the influence of fibre architecture on the mechanical properties of vacuum‐infused glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites at elevated temperatures (ET). Laminates with three different fibre configurations—unidirectional (UD), bidirectional 0°/90° cross‐ply (BD), and ±45° off‐axis angle‐ply (OA) – were tested in ...

Influence of veneer lathe checks on the mechanical properties of LVL [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is a high-performance engineered wood product made of several wood veneers bound together mostly in grain direction. Veneers are obtained thanks to peeling process.

Char Layer Thickness Evolution During Structural Timber Fire Experiment and Final Density Profile

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper evaluates several non‐destructive experimental methods for determining the char layer thickness and its density profile in structural timber samples exposed to standard ISO 834 fire curve experiments. Microwave echo pulse, ultrasonic echo pulse, X‐ray computed tomography, and resistance drilling were evaluated.

Upogibna trdnost in togost slojnatega furnirnega lesa (LVL) iz termično modificirane in nemodificirane bukovine

open access: yesLes, 2017
The aim of the research was to define and develop a wooden composite with a thin cross-section and which could be used as reinforcement material in oversized wooden window profiles. An additional limitation was to bond the composite at room temperature.

Influence of Adhesive Type on Heat Induced Delamination in Tension Loaded Shear Lap Cross‐Laminated Timber Samples Exposed to Radiant Heat Flux

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Heat induced delamination (HID) is a phenomenon in engineered wood products which may result in the detachment of the bonded timber lamellae before charring propagates to the bond line interphase. This study aims to correlate the thermal degradation of two 1‐c‐polyurethane adhesives at the microscale to the thermo‐hydro‐mechanical behaviour of
