In order to enhance the stiffness and strength characteristics of wood, hybrid laminates consisting of spruce wood with (a) graphite-epoxy and (b) polyester-glass cloth were made. These hybrid laminates were tested for tension, three-point bending and cantilever bending to estimate the effectiveness of the lamination.

Optimal design of pitched laminated wood beams
Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1978The optimal design of a pitched laminated wood beam is considered. An engineering formulation is given in which the volume of the beam is minimized. The problem is then reformulated and solved as a generalized geometric (signomial) program. Sample designs are presented.

Wood joints and laminated wood beams assembled by mechanically-welded wood dowels
Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2007Dowel welding by high-speed rotation was used to join two wood blocks and strong joints were obtained. Dowel angle to the surface of the wood blocks to be joined had a marked influence on the mechanical performance of the joint. When the dowel was inserted at 90° to the substrate, the dowel was subjected to and resisted a shear force only.

Glued Laminated Wood Construction in Europe
Journal of the Structural Division, 1958History and current status of wood laminating industry in Europe; adhesives, wood species and production methods varying from United States practices; more efficient design by use of I-beams enables European engineers to save up to 25% lumber and still provide stiffer construction than comparable American rectangular beam designs.

Wood-Cloth and Wood-Paper Laminates
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1944Abstract A growing tendency exists for the use of wood and resin-impregnated cloth or paper, which is an outgrowth of laminated - plywood developments. Combinations of cloth and paper with wood, in addition to serving as vehicles for the bonding glue in the manufacture of the laminates, also help stabilize the wood assemblies and provide

Laminated wood-concrete structural members
Pollack Periodica, 2013This paper describes wood-concrete structural members in which the interlayer connection is achieved with adhesives, by overlaying the fresh concrete over the top of a wood layer to which moisture tolerant adhesive coating was applied a short time before the casting.

Wood–bamboo–wood laminated composite lumber jointed by linear vibration–friction welding
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2013The linear vibration-friction welding offers several advantages compared to traditional mechanical fasteners or gluing. This study examines the possibility of applying mechanically-induced vibration welding to the joining procedure of a wood-bamboo sandwich-laminated composite. The result shows that average tensile strength values of the composites can
