Structural Power Composites Based on High Mass Loading Zn‐Ion Hybrid Supercapacitors with Metal Mesh Current Collectors and Aramid Nanofiber/Glass Fiber Composite Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional structural power composite is developed by integrating high‐mass‐loading Zn‐ion hybrid supercapacitors with metal mesh current collectors and aramid nanofiber‐based composite electrolytes, enabling simultaneous load‐bearing capability and enhanced areal energy storage.

Regulated cell death and DAMPs as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in normothermic perfusion of transplant organs. Part 1: their emergence from injuries to the donor organ

open access: yesFrontiers in Transplantation
This Part 1 of a bipartite review commences with a succinct exposition of innate alloimmunity in light of the danger/injury hypothesis in Immunology. The model posits that an alloimmune response, along with the presentation of alloantigens, is driven by ...

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.

Stability of Medicinal Nanoemulsions to Spaceflight: Insights From the StarMed Experiment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Chitosan‐coated melatonin nanoemulsions (MN) recovered from a sounding rocket mission preserve droplet size and controlled‐release behavior, whereas uncoated nanoemulsions show ageing‐driven droplet growth and increased accessible drug fraction. Simple polymer coatings thus enhance the flight resilience of liquid space medicines under cumulative launch

Polyimide‐Linked Hexaazatriphenylene‐Based Porous Organic Polymer with Multiple Redox‐Active Sites as a High‐Capacity Organic Cathode for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A high‐capacity polyimide‐linked porous organic polymer (HAT‐PTO) incorporating numerous redox‐active centers is synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction, delivering a high theoretical capacity of 484 mAh g−1. In situ hybridization with carboxyl‐functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes enhances conductivity and stability, achieving 397 mAh g−1 at C ...

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Regulated cell death and DAMPs as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in normothermic perfusion of transplant organs. Part 2: implementation strategies

open access: yesFrontiers in Transplantation
This Part 2 of a bipartite review commences with the delineation of a conceptual model outlining the fundamental role of injury-induced regulated cell death (RCD) in the release of DAMPs that drive innate immune responses involved in early inflammation ...

Pilgrimage to a Greek Island Shrine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage, 2021
In modern Greece, the festival dedicated to the Dormition of the Panagia ( the All-Holy One ), who is the Virgin Mary, is celebrated on 15 August. On Tinos, in the island group of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea, this fertility- and healing-festival ...
