Prey-tracking behavior and prey preferences in a tree-climbing firefly [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Prey-tracking behavior is common in snail-killing predators, but in the family Lampyridae, this behavior has been validated in only a single species even though this Coleopteran family includes many specialist snail predators.

The land snails of Lichadonisia islets (Greece)

open access: yesEcologica Montenegrina, 2021
The Lichadonisia island group is located between Maliakos and the North Evian Gulf, in central Greece. Lichadonisia is one of the few volcanic island groups of Greece, consisting mainly of lava flows. Today the islands are uninhabited with high numbers of visitors, but permanent population existed for many decades in the past.

Snail fauna of the oldest cemeteries from Riga (Latvia) [PDF]

open access: yesMalacologica Bohemoslovaca, 2008
We report on the snail fauna from one of the oldest cemeteries from Riga city (Latvia), viz. Lielie kapi and Pokrova kapi. A list of all the snail species recorded from both cemeteries and limited information on the biotope conditions are given ...

Diversity and biotic homogenization of urban land-snail faunas in relation to habitat types and macroclimate in 32 central European cities. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The effects of non-native species invasions on community diversity and biotic homogenization have been described for various taxa in urban environments, but not for land snails.

Land snail microclimate niches identify suitable areas for climate refugia management on a montane landscape

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2021
Climate refugia management is an emerging natural resource sub-discipline but identifying which species would benefit, their climatic requirements, and where both species and suitable conditions are located remains problematic.

Cryptic diversity in a chirally variable land snail [PDF]

open access: yesItalian Journal of Zoology, 2016
Jaminia quadridens (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Heterobranchia: Pulmonata: Stylommatophora: Enidae) is a land snail living up to 2400 m above sea level on calcareous meadow slopes. It is widely distributed in Central and Southern Europe, with two subspecies currently recognised (J. quadridens quadridens and J. quadridens elongata).

Characterisation of Reproduction-Associated Genes and Peptides in the Pest Land Snail, Theba pisana. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Increased understanding of the molecular components involved in reproduction may assist in understanding the evolutionary adaptations used by animals, including hermaphrodites, to produce offspring and retain a continuation of their lineage.

A land snail's view of a fragmented landscape [PDF]

open access: yesBiological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009
Habitat fragmentation may influence the genetic structure of populations, especially of species with low mobility. So far, these effects have been mainly studied by surveying neutral markers, and much less by looking at ecologically relevant characters.

INTRODUCED LAND SNAILS AND SLUGS IN COLOMBIA [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molluscan Studies, 2002
Twelve species of introduced land molluscs, including seven slug species, have been found in the cold zone above 2000 m altitude in the Departamentos Cundinamarca and Boyacá, and the Distrito Especial in Colombia. The introduced land molluscs remain generally restricted to disturbed environments, from which native species are often absent.
