Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Land use/land cover change dynamics of moist evergreen afromontane forest, Southern Ethiopia: Implications for conservation

open access: yesScientific African
Improving the understanding of land use and land cover dynamics can lead to forecasting future land use and land cover changes and applying more appropriate policy interventions to achieve better land management. This study was conducted in Bore-Anferara-

Integration of Spatiotemporal Multi‐Omics in Peach Fruit Unravels a Metabolic Niche and the Genetic Basis of Trichome‐Mediated Stress Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study constructed the first spatiotemporal multi‐omics map of peach fruit and discovered a key candidate gene that synergistically regulates trichome development and drought tolerance through the jasmonic acid signaling pathway, providing insights into the coupling mechanism between development and stress resistance.

Effects of Climate and Land Use Changes on Water Resources in the Taoer River

open access: yesAdvances in Meteorology, 2017
The changes of both climate and land use/cover have some impacts on water resources. In the Taoer River basin, these changes have directly influenced the land use pattern adjustment, wetland protection, connections between rivers and reservoirs, local ...

Climate-Relevant Land Use and Land Cover Change Policies

open access: yesBulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 2016
Abstract Both observational and modeling studies clearly demonstrate that land-use and land-cover change (LULCC) play an important biogeophysical and biogeochemical role in the climate system from the landscape to regional and even continental scales.

Population Growth and Land Use Dynamics along Urban–Rural Gradient [PDF]

open access: yes
In this study we apply a spatial conditional logit model to determine factors influencing land cover change in three contiguous counties in West Georgia between 1992 and 2001 using point (pixel) based observations of land characteristics.

Completing the picture: Importance of considering participatory mapping for REDD+ measurement, Reporting and verification (MRV) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Remote sensing has been widely used for mapping land cover and is considered key to monitoring changes in forest areas in the REDD+ Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system. But Remote Sensing as a desk study cannot capture the whole picture;
