From Measuring Land Use Mix to Measuring Land Use Pattern -- New Methods for Assessing Land Use [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Land use mix is one of the central concepts in the urban planning field, though its measure has been found to have many fallacies. In this study, we propose multiple alternative methods to the Conventional Shannon Entropy land use mix index, which is generally employed to measure land use diversity.

Enhancement and anisotropy of electron Lande factor due to spin-orbit interaction in semiconductor nanowires [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We investigate the effective Lande factor in semiconductor nanowires with strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling. Using the $\mathbf{k}\cdot\mathbf{p}$ theory and the envelope function approach we derive a conduction band Hamiltonian where the tensor $g^*$ is explicitly related to the spin-orbit coupling constant $\alpha_R$.

Unlocking Ultra‐Long Cycle Stability of Li Metal Electrode by Separators Modified by Porous Red Phosphorus Nanosheets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Coating the standard polypropylene separator with a porous red phosphorous nanosheet greatly improves cycling performance in Li electrode cells. The phosphorus‐based surface chemistry deactivates electrolyte solvent decomposition and enhances the cleavage of F‐containing salt, resulting in an inorganic‐dominated electrolyte interphase (SEI) composition

Post-Mining Land Use for the Function of Geotourism and Spa

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
The issue of land reclamation and post-mining land use appears to be extremely topical. In addition to traditional methods of excavation revitalization, such as directions: forest, water and communal, there is a very attractive solution which is an adaptation of these areas for geotouristic- or other functions designed to accommodate people, for ...

Flow‐Induced Vascular Remodeling on‐Chip: Implications for Anti‐VEGF Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flow‐induced vascular remodeling plays a critical role in network stabilization and function. Using a vasculature‐on‐chip system, this study reveals how physiological VEGF levels and flow affect vascular remodeling and provides insights into tumor vessel normalization.

Reconstruction of Past Human land-use from Pollen Data and Anthropogenic land-cover Changes Scenarios [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Accurate maps of past land cover and human land-use are necessary when studying the impact of anthropogenic land-cover changes on climate. Ideally the maps of past land cover would be separated into naturally occurring vegetation and human induced changes, allowing us to quantify the effect of human land-use on past climate.

Collision-free landing of multiple UAVs on moving ground vehicles using time-varying control barrier functions [PDF]

open access: yes2024 American Control Conference (ACC) (pp. 3760-3767)
In this article, we present a centralized approach for the control of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for landing on moving unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) using control barrier functions (CBFs). The proposed control framework employs two kinds of CBFs to impose safety constraints on the UAVs' motion.

An agent-based approach to procedural city generation incorporating Land Use and Transport Interaction models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
We apply the knowledge of urban settings established with the study of Land Use and Transport Interaction (LUTI) models to develop reward functions for an agent-based system capable of planning realistic artificial cities. The system aims to replicate in the micro scale the main components of real settlements, such as zoning and accessibility in a road

Native Lignin Migration and Clustering in Wood: Superhydrophobic, Antimold, and Tribonegative Layers for Rain‐Driven Electrification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a sustainable solution for rainwater‐driven energy harvesting by harnessing the intrinsic properties of lignin in wood. The first demonstration of an all‐wood tribonegative material for liquid–solid triboelectric nanogenerators is presented, eliminating the need for fluorine‐containing polymers and functional additives. Abstract The
