Impact of land management and fertiliser use on soil microbial function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Soil microorganisms are a key component for soil health and fertility as they promote the turnover of organic matter and nutrient cycling (e.g. phosphorus and nitrogen), which in turn determines plant and animal production.

Photonic Crystal Enhanced Microscopy on a 2D Photonic Crystal Surface

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This work demonstrates the design, fabrication, and the first‐time test of a 2D photonic crystal surface for photonic resonator absorption microscopy. The designed surface uniformly enhances electromagnetic near fields, achieving > 100% improved detecting uniformity for surface‐captured AuNPs from a blocking biosensor assay aimed for detecting SARS‐CoV‐

The Impact of Biofuels on the Propensity of Land-Use Conversion among Non-Industrial Private Forest Landowners in Florida [PDF]

open access: yes
A hypothetical market for renting and converting forested land into row cropping for biofuel production revealed that nearly half of the 1,060 non-industrial landowners sampled in Florida are willing to accept payments for land type conversion and the ...

Room Temperature Synthesis and Photopatterning of Mesoporous Titanium Dioxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A nanofabrication strategy combining deep‐UV photolithography with block copolymer self‐assembly enables direct patterning and mineralization of mesoporous TiO2 thin films at room temperature. Photocatalytic titanium oxo‐clusters promote polymer degradation under UV irradiation, enabling multiscale control over porosity, film thickness, and lateral ...

Ecological Priority-Oriented Performance Evaluation of Land Use Functions and Zoning Governance by Entropy–Catastrophe Progression Model

open access: yesLand
As land use performance undergoes abrupt shifts due to the transition from growth-centric to ecology-focused development, traditional evaluation methods often overlook the catastrophe characteristics of urban complex functions in the process of system ...

Mitochondria‐Specific Protein Delivery by Protease‐Triggered Release in Plants with Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Polymer‐coated carbon nanotubes were engineered as protease‐responsive nanocarriers for protein delivery in intact plants. GFP cargo can be released by cytosolic phytaspase cleavage and subsequently targeted to mitochondria via an N‐terminal sequence, enabling controlled intracellular protein delivery without tissue damage and demonstrating stable ...

Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Pattern Evolution and Decoupling Relationships of Land Use Functions Based on Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development: A Case Study of the Yellow River Basin, China

open access: yesLand
With rapid industrialization and urbanization, the contradiction between the human exploitation of land production and living functions and natural ecosystem service functions has intensified.

Assessment of agricultural land fund in the Czech Republic, importance and future [PDF]

open access: yes
Assessment of land depends on the production function of soil and additional connections given by environmental requirements, by the evaluation of public goods or by the requirements for formation a fair tax policy and even by the interests of landowners.

Nanoporous Microelectrodes for Neural Electrophysiology Recordings in Organotypic Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The highly porous microelectrodes have been designed and printed on culture membranes, allowing to record electrophysiological neural activity for rodent brain slices. To keep the biocompatible nanoporous structure, the microelectrodes and insulative layer are fabricated on the bottom of culture membranes with only small connector pads added on the top.

The Use of Weather Data and Evapotranspiration Requirements to Estimate the Marginal Value Product of Irrigation and the Profit Maximizing Irrigation Level for Corn in the Texas Panhandle [PDF]

open access: yes
The declining availability of irrigation water from the Ogallala aquifer combined with increasing energy costs make irrigation strategies much more critical. Maximizing yield reduces profit by between $22 and $158 per acre depending on the combination of
