Optimizing Urban Air Mobility: A Ground-Connected Approach to Select Optimal eVTOL Takeoff and Landing Sites for Short-Distance Intercity Travel

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology
The progression of low-carbon aviation policies and the maturation of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology have engendered considerable prospects for the advancement of short-haul intercity and intra-city transportation systems.

A system for site-specific integration of transgenes in mammalian cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Mammalian cell expression systems are the most commonly used platforms for producing biotherapeutic proteins. However, development of recombinant mammalian cell lines is often hindered by the unstable and variable transgene expression associated with ...

A Rare Allele of ST5 From Wild Rice Enhances Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel salt‐tolerance gene ST5W, characterized by a unique 36‐bp promoter insertion, is found exclusively in a small subset of Oryza rufipogon and is absent in cultivated rice. Field trials confirm ST5W significantly enhances rice yield across diverse genetic backgrounds under saline conditions.

Cross Kingdom Metabolic Engineering Paradigm Elevating Sustainable Protein Production

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Confronting the dual crisis of escalating global protein demand and unsustainable agriculture necessitates transformative solutions. Here, we pioneer evolutionary insights from maize nitrogen optimization via asparagine synthetase (ASNS) to rewire metabolism in Pichia pastoris.

Analysis of impacts of geographical environmental factors on "long landing distance" over-limit event of civil aviation

open access: yesHangkong gongcheng jinzhan
The long landing distance from 15 m(50 ft)to touchdown is an over-limit event frequently occurring during the landing phase, and also can significantly increase the risk of landing accidents.

Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.

Landing Site Selection using Fuzzy Rule-Based Reasoning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
— In this paper, multiple on-board sensors are used to assess the terrain safety in real-time during spacecraft descent. A linguistic, fuzzy rule-based reasoning engine is used to determine terrain safety from sensor measurements and, together with ...
