Evaluation of Chickpea Landraces
Ninety-four lines of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) landraces were evaluated for thirteen characteristics on Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture in Dicle University in Diyarbakir, Turkey in 2000 season. There was a wide range of variation for all characters, expect seed length. For yield/plant ranged from 4.92 to 15.76 g/plant and the CV% was 24.

Ancient Wheat Species Can Extend Biodiversity of Cultivated Crops [PDF]
Wheat genetic resources may be grown in organic farming systems or in less favourable areas for bread wheat species. Characteristics of hulled wheat species (23 varieties of einkorn, emmer wheat, spelt wheat) were studied and evaluated within a two-year ...

Bioavailability through lactic fermentation in millet for combating hidden hunger
Millets are nutrient‐rich grains with considerable potential to combat hidden hunger, but the presence of anti‐nutritional factors, can restrict mineral bioavailability. Processing strategies including soaking, germination, cooking, and lactic acid fermentation can reduce the anti‐nutritional factors.

Genetic switch to lower nitrogen fertilizer dependency and enhance maize yield
Transcription factor NCR1 regulates nitrate transporter NRT2.3 and controls root‐to‐shoot nitrogen transport. A superior NCR1 haplotype, lost in modern maize breeding, boosts this process. This discovery enables breeding and biotechnology to develop high‐yielding maize varieties that require less nitrogen fertilizer, reducing agricultural costs and ...

Wheat wild relatives are untapped genetic resources from salinity and drought hit areas. This study presents differential comparative morphophysiological responses of these species and modern wheat cultivars under saline conditions. Salt resistant species produce more shoot and root biomass under saline conditions through salt exclusion and/or tissue ...

Evaluation of rice landraces for resistance to planthoppers and leafhoppers
Evaluation and identification of resistant entries for different hopper pests is a continuous process to develop new resistant varieties. Identification of novel resistant genotypes from landraces will provide valuable information, protect the local ...

On-farm conservation of potato landraces in Ecuador
Potato-landrace production systems have not been previously described in Ecuador. Accordingly, three areas of high potato diversity were identified using the passport data of samples collected during the 70s and 80s.
