Analysis of LANDSAT TM images of Chernobyl

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1986
Abstract LANDSAT-5 TM images of the nuclear power plant of Chernobyl are analysed with the emphasis on estimating the reactor surface temperature. The investigation was done for TM channels 5 and 7 using the simulation model SENSAT developed at DFVLR. It accounts for the sensor characteristics (spectral response, IFOV) and target/background properties (

Data continuity of Landsat-4 TM, Landsat-5 TM, Landsat-7 ETM+, and Advanced Land Imager (ALI) sensors

IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2003
The data from the Landsat program constitutes the longest record of the Earth's surface as seen from space. Landsat 1 was launched in 1972 with the Multi-Spectral Scanner sensor (MSS), which was specifically designed for land remote sensing. This sensor proved so valuable that it was used with four subsequent Landsat missions.

Water quality mapping using Landsat TM imagery

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
Environmental monitoring through the method of traditional ship sampling is time consuming and requires a high survey cost. The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of Landsat TM imagery for total suspended solids (TSS) mapping using a newly developed algorithm over Penang Island. The study area is the seawater region around Penang

The Availability of Landsat TM images of Great Britain

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1994
Abstract The loss of Landsat 6, at launch, and the ageing sensors on board Landsats 4 and 5, enhance the value of existing TM images. This letter shows that 88 per cent of Britain was imaged as cloud-free scenes or quarter scenes, in both the summer and winter of 1988-1990 and 97.5 per cent was imaged on at least one date.

An illumination correction algorithm on Landsat-TM data

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
In this paper, a new illumination correction model, the rotation model, is introduced. The model is based on the empirical correlation between reflectance and the illumination condition (IL). The model eliminates the dependency of reflectance on IL through rotating the data in IL-reflectance space.
