Studies on urban areas extraction from landsat TM images

Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005
In this paper, extracting urban areas from Landsat TM images is studied. We proposed a new method for urban and rural residential areas extraction. A classification example based on barren index(BI) is given in this article. We classified the image with several methods and compared the classification results.

Cross-calibration of Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI with Aqua MODIS using PICS

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
The Thematic Mapper (TM) onboard the Landsat 5 (L5) has provided an unprecedented amount of earth observations for more than 25 years since its launch on March 1, 1984. The MODIS sensor onboard the Aqua satellite is a part of the afternoon constellation of spacecraft and has been successfully providing near-continuous observations of the earth’s ...

A re-interpretation of Landsat TM data on Chernobyl

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1989
Abstract Temperatures estimated from 29 April 1986 Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data for the fire at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are reassessed and a new range of distribution and temperatures of the hottest visible material is suggested. The detected shortwavelength infrared thermal radiance is interpreted to come from sources at around 1130 ...

Landsat-5 TM reflective-band absolute radiometric calibration

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2004
The Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper (TM) sensor provides the longest running continuous dataset of moderate spatial resolution remote sensing imagery, dating back to its launch in March 1984. Historically, the radiometric calibration procedure for this imagery used the instrument's response to the Internal Calibrator (IC) on a scene-by-scene basis to ...

Improvement in absolute calibration accuracy of Landsat-5 TM with Landsat-7 ETM+ data

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
The ability to detect and quantify changes in the Earth's environment depends on satellites sensors that can provide calibrated, consistent measurements of Earth's surface features through time. A critical step in this process is to put image data from subsequent generations of sensors onto a common radiometric scale.

Multispectral classification of landsat TM images by neural networks

1998
This work presents the results of experiments with the use of artificial neural networks for land cover classification. The goal of this research was to examine the operation of back-propagation neural network and its application in the classification of remotly sensed data. A back-propagation network with one hidden layer is used to classify a Landsat

Monitoring of a rice field using landsat-5 TM and landsat-7 ETM+ data

Advances in Space Research, 2003
Abstract Through the research on the application of the multi temporal data acquired with Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ to monitoring of rice field the following features are clarified Two vegetation indices NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and EVI (Extended Vegetation Index) obtained from Landsat-5 TM data of 7 July 2000 and that from

A robust approach for estimating LAI from Landsat TM/ETM+ imagery

IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002
Leaf area index (LAI) is a quantitative measure of vegetation cover and of use in models of carbon, water and energy budgets. The recent availability of well-calibrated coverages of Landsat ETM+ imagery over large areas offers an opportunity for production of LAI estimates at fine spatial resolution.

A fast atmospheric correction algorithm applied to Landsat TM images

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1990
Abstract A fast atmospheric correction algorithm for the reflective bands (0·4–2·5/μm) of remote sensing instruments is presented. It proceeds in two steps : (1) calculation of the ground reflectance of each pixel based on precomputed planetary albedo functions for different standard atmospheres, aerosol types and optical depths, or actual atmospheric ...
