Multivariate Controls on Bed Turnover in Braided Rivers

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Braided rivers with multiple threads exhibit variable, sometimes chaotic movements, making it difficult to characterize their mobility and identify the climate, tectonic, and land‐cover conditions that drive their behavior. Using 25 years of satellite imagery from 20 braided rivers, we measured “bed turnover”—successive conversions between ...

Normalizing and Converting Image DC Data Using Scatter Plot Matching

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2010
Remote sensing image data from sources such as Landsat or airborne multispectral digital cameras are typically in the form of digital count (DC) values.

Coupling Water Purification and Carbon Sequestration at Various Spatial Scales From Supply and Demand Perspective

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 13, Page 8986-9007, 15 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Balancing ecosystem‐service supply and demand is central to understanding both the natural and social dimensions of ecosystem services and to enhancing human well‐beings. Concurrently, collaborative efforts are underway to improve multiple ecosystem services, including the promotion of carbon neutrality and water purification (WP) within basin

Coal Mining as a Driver of Land Use and Land Cover Change and Degradation: A Case in Moatize City, Mozambique

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 13, Page 9126-9143, 15 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Coal remains a major global energy source despite ongoing environmental controversies, particularly, regarding climate change and landscape transformation. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover (LULC) in the Moatize Coal Basin (MCB), Mozambique, between 1990 and 2024, with a specific focus on land ...

Unraveling Spatiotemporal Heterogeneity and Driving Mechanism of Vegetation Recovery in Co‐Seismic Landslide Areas via Nonlinear Trajectories and Bayesian Networks

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We developed an integrated GAM–Bayesian framework to diagnose the nonlinear recovery dynamics of vegetation in landslide‐affected areas. Our model reveals that most sites reached a key recovery inflection point within 5–7 years, with faster recovery occurring under warm, moist, and moderate light conditions.

Landsat TM and ETM+ thermal band calibration

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2003
Landsat-5 has been imaging the Earth since March 1984, and Landsat-7 was added to the series of Landsat instruments in April 1999. The Landsat Project Science Office and the Landsat-7 Image Assessment System have been monitoring the on-board calibration of Landsat-7 since launch.

The contribution of small trees to carbon stocks along a recovery gradient in the Amazonia

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Most ecological knowledge about carbon recovery during natural regeneration in tropical regions has focused on individuals exceeding 10 cm in diameter. However, the contribution of smaller individuals to aboveground carbon (AGC) across successional gradients remains poorly quantified, despite their potentially substantial role during early ...

Preparing Landsat Image Time Series (LITS) for Monitoring Changes in Vegetation Phenology in Queensland, Australia

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2012
Time series of images are required to extract and separate information on vegetation change due to phenological cycles, inter-annual climatic variability, and long-term trends.

Spatial Heterogeneity and Nonlinear Influencing Mechanisms of Vegetation Carbon Sequestration Capacity in the Southwest China Karst Region

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Understanding of the spatiotemporal dynamics of vegetation carbon sequestration capacity (VCSC) in Southwest China's contiguous karst region is critical for regional carbon cycling. Using MOD17A3 data from 2001 to 2023, we analyzed spatial heterogeneity in vegetation net primary productivity (NPP) and applied Geodetector to evaluate nonlinear ...
