Landscape Functions (Physiology)
2014A landscape shows all the principal characters of any level of life organisation: structure, movement, reproduction, metastability, etc. So it owns a proper physiology: thus processes related to each character must be studied, giving a complex articulation of landscape dynamics emerges, never completely examined until now.

Properties of Fitness Functions and Search Landscapes
2001Abstract: This tutorial is an introduction to the study of properties of fitness functions and search landscapes in the context of predicting the difficulty of search problems for genetic algorithms and, more generally, for stochastic iterative algorithms.

The functional landscape of a presynaptic nerve terminal
Cell Calcium, 2012The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is the original model synapse, and while others have emerged, especially as models of plasticity involving coincidence detectors, the NMJ continues to provide useful new information. It remains, for example, one of the best understood synapses in terms of the relationship between structure and function.

Neutrality and the Evolvability of Boolean Function Landscape
2001This work is a study of neutrality in the context of Evolutionary Computation systems. In particular, we introduce the use of explicit neutrality with an integer string coding scheme to allow neutrality to be measured during evolution. We tested this method on a Boolean benchmark problem.

Consider the Schrödinger operator - ▵ + λ V with non-negative iid random potential V of strength λ > 0 . We prove existence and uniqueness of the associated landscape function on the whole space, and show that its correlations decay exponentially. As a main ingredient we establish the (annealed and quenched) exponential decay of the Green function ...

Landscape Function Analysis: An Overview and Landscape Organization Indicators
2011In this chapter our aim is to first provide restoration practitioners (RPs) with an overview of landscape function analysis (LFA) and then with a description of those indicators that they can use to characterize how a landscape is structurally (spatially) and functionally organized. Here we only briefly describe these landscape organization indicators (
